About Duke

I have been DMing for nearly 40 years. I have run primarily D&D since basic edition, but played as many TTRPGs as I could get my hands on for many years. I will primarily run a 5e 2014 D&D campaign, with some homebrew rules/monsters/races sprinkled in. While I am not a voice actor, I do sprinkle in voices and accents to create a deeper experience. In addition I tend to play off the cuff, allowing my players more freedom in the choices they make and giving them the chance to shape the story. I DO run a living world, so players that break laws or make enemies may find those choices haunting them. While players are important to the story, they aren’t the only heroes in the world. I will use dndbeyond for maps and character maintenance, but will share content so a free account will suffice for players.

I became a GM because

I love to tell a story that engages the people at the table.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

D&D, Shadowrun, and Star Wars most likely.

My favorite system of all Time is

2nd edition D&D most likely. Of all of them it holds the most nostalgia for me.

How Duke runs games

I run a balanced game between role play and roll play. I let my players story take the forefront and am there to facilitate the story around it. I run living worlds where a players choices have consequences and heroes can grow from unknown to world known over the course of the campaign.

I prep by

Coming up with multiple scenarios and then letting the party decide where and when to go places. If they don’t follow the plans then I simply play off the cuff. Thats where the best memories happen.

When it comes to voices

I will use a few different one in an attempt to help immerse the players. I’m not a voice actor, but I do like to use some voices for the fun of it.
