About Devin

Hello all! My name is Devin. I'm looking to provide a unique experience with a classic sense of adventure. D&D 5e homebrew one-shots. Good for beginners and experienced players. As a standard I like my sessions to have a challenging edge with the possibility of player death, but if you have a group that wants a more or less difficult experience, just let me know! In the end these are games, and we all want to have a good time. I like to include the opportunity for heavy roleplay (thematic voices, open dialogue, player agency) but also leave it as optional for the more combat focused group.

Featured Prompts

I got started GMing...

I started playing table top by teaching myself and some friends to play Warhammer 40k. We all later started playing table top roleplay together.

My favorite shows/movies are

Objective quality speaking the Lord of the Rings series. Me personally, A silent Voice.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing other PC games. Or hanging out with my beautiful wife and our cat.

How Devin runs games

I run my games with a mix of "Rule of Cool" and "Rules as written". To me, games should always have an emphasis on player experience, and a Gm needs to be adaptable to fulfill people from all walks of life. My games tend to have the opportunity for heavy roleplay (thematic voices, open dialogue, player agency) but also I allow roleplay to be minimal for those more combat focused groups. My games are fun and engaging but also have a challenging edge and the possibility of player death.

I deal with rules issues by...

Seeing if there is an accepted consensus available on the issue. if not, i would run it in a mixture of fun/fair that i feel is right, and discuss it with the player afterwards if needed.

My games focus on...

Providing a classic D&D experience. Understandable settings and standard fantasy adventure. Making fun experiences for both old and new players.

Rules are...

Mostly by the book, but the "Rule of Cool" will naturally come out if the moment calls for it.

Devin's ideal table

To me, Table top has always been a social experience. The thing me and my best friends get together for near weekly. With that in mind the emphasis of my table has always been fun. That isn't always "silly" fun. Sometimes its surviving near death, sometimes its tense roleplay. Regardless, Table top games are games and we should be enjoying the time spent playing them. If you're Hyper-focused on one aspect of Table-top. Such as, all combat (action economy and raw efficiency) or all roleplay (Theatre of the mind and no tokens or combat). My table might not be for you, as i tend to like a balance of both.

I am for a vibe that's...

Upbeat. Even in the worst moments (such as, character death). Everyone should always still be respectful and mature with each other "out of table."

I love it when a player

Includes other players in plans or schemes.

My table is not the place for...

Main characters or Mary Sue. Its a team and everyone gets a say.
