About Devon
I am a gamemaster of about five years who predominantly runs homebrew D&D 5e. I have a penchant for playing memorable (albeit goofy) NPCs that the players can't help but love or despise. I prefer games that are heavier on roleplaying and social interaction to ones that are dominated by back-to-back combat encounters. That being said, however, I love to design memorable combat encounters with recurring villains.

How Devon runs games
As a GM, I lean towards roleplay and exploration, with bouts of combat encounters meant to serve as a way to level up the player characters, while sprinkling in clues or teeing up planned story beats. I often find myself using a character's background or backstory to set up and release tension during that character's arc. I focus on memorable scenes, encounters, and NPCs, as well as custom magic items and boons tailored to each player's character to dole out to them as they progress through the story.

I once ran a session...
Where the players were so busy roleplaying, planning, and deciphering blurbs of lore that I spent the majority of our three hours together just listening to them talk.
My games focus on...
Character-oriented stories. The shape of a campaign is greatly influenced by the kinds of characters people choose to play. How you interact with the world is tangible and will affect how the world interacts back.
Rules are...
Meant to be broken. Use them until they impede you from telling the story you are trying to tell. You can always put them back together later.
Devon's ideal table
Roleplayers, theater kids, anyone with an interest in science fiction and fantasy. If you like creatures and crackpot NPCs, then you're in the right place. I am here to do silly voices, make wacky magic items, and help guide the story to an interesting finale. I tend to stray away from building "optimized" characters, because it is truly more fun to just play a random guy than it is to play the most overpowered character you could possibly think of. Don't get me wrong, if you have a powerful character, that is no problem. It is when people go out of their way to make a PC that disrupts the game balance, effectively carrying encounters by themselves. If there is no risk involved, then what's the point of playing?

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Describing your attacks or reflavoring spells around your character's physical traits or their belongings.
I love it when a player
Remembers some trivial piece of lore that I mentioned months prior. This happens all the time, and it fascinates me that people are so interested in these games that they take physical notes on them.
My table is not the place for...
Rules lawyering and/or telling people how to play their character more efficiently. If you want to give a player some assistance or advice, by all means. But do so kindly, and make sure they know you are coming from a good place.
