About Drewsula

I just turned 27 and I've been DMing since middle school. I love running one shots for friends and newcomers, and decided that it would be a fun way to earn a little extra income after working a corporate job!

I became a GM because

I like to tell a story. Being the narrator for other people telling their tales feels like writing a book in person. I suppose like a verbal story teller from ye olden days

I got started GMing...

When I was around 13 or 14. I liked playing DnD, but not as a player. I'll joke about being a forever DM, but I do it because I love it. I like getting to prepare or be thrown off guard and have to improvise. It's a blast for me.

People are always surprised when I tell them

about my tattoos. It always throws people off when I talk about my more serious tattoos, then point to one of a dying plant that says "Photo-sickofthis". I feel like they add character and they're great conversation starters!

How Drewsula runs games

I love setting up tactical encounters, where my players truly need to plan to survive. The thrill of coming out of impossible threats is exhilarating!

I once ran a session...

for two weeks straight, only pausing for bathroom breaks and sleep if it was necessary. I missed like... Two weeks of college classes because I was so into the story, and my players had a blast!

My favorite trope is...

the dishonored prince. I love tossing them in, mainly to show edgy rouges what they sound like half the time, but in a posh voice. "My faaaaaaahtha was killed by the wiiiiizaaaaahd". Other than that, they're great side-quest starters.

Rules are...

there for a reason, but made to be broken. I follow most rules of 5e, but I don't care for inspiration, and choose to use it as a storage system instead, allowing players to save a critical hit they might get against a weak enemy, if they want to use it on a boss later.

Drewsula's ideal table

I like to think my tables are good for learning. I have a history in education, so I like to teach people how to play the game. New players and old players are always welcome. I think my tables are more light hearted, but easy to put into a serious setting.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

apocalypses. I have a thing for those, they're just fun.

I think it's a red flag when players...

Get really mad at dice rolls. It's a game of chance and narrative finesse. If your dice roll low, they're doing it for a reason.

I think min/maxing...

is a waste. I see the game as a zero to hero kind of thing. Plus, if your backstory says "I slayed dragons" but you're level one... I always imagine someone putting paper wings on a gecko.
