About Siobhan

I'm Siobhan (Shiv-awn) or you can call me Shiv! I'm a queer, neurodivergent actor who's been playing TTRPGs since 2008. I have had most of my experience in DND but I have played things like World of Darkness, Shadowrun, many of the Powered By the Apocalypse systems (Monsterhearts, Avatar, Monster of the Week). I also love learning indie systems that I find on Kickstarter. My personal favorites are Household and Raven. I am a relatively newer GM, mostly running one shots for friends or coworkers. Though, I know the games I run inside and out. I have a background in theater both in acting and writing. My favorite pastime besides tabletop is writing. My games will be extremely role-play heavy, but do not think you need to be an Oscar winner to have fun. I love to walk anyone new to the hobby through the usual growing pains of getting started and have you leaving my table confident. I encourage open communication and employ safety tools to make sure that none of this experience is stressful, uncertain, or distressing to you. My games are heavily influenced by media I consume, and I hope seeing things you're familiar with will help you learn faster, because you have a point of reference. I hope to see you at my table and we can create a wonderful story!

People are always surprised when I tell them

My education and work history. I am a woman who has worn many hats. I studied theater, biology, mortuary science, and psychology. I have worked in funeral homes and crematories, childcare, wedding dress consultation, costume construction, and metaphysical stores to name a few.

How Siobhan runs games

I am here to facilitate your story! Give me that 10 page backstory! Let me make every word of it count! There will be minimal combat and the combat we hit will only further the plot. I will give you romance, friendship, enemies. Whatever you want to push your character to their highest self. I encourage open communication with me and your other players. I will foster camaraderie at my tables so you can walk away with a whole slew of new friends.

I deal with rules issues by...

I will always double check what the rules actually say, but in reality, you are the heroes. And all of us know in most hero media, there's a moment that breaks the rules. It won't happen every time it's asked of me, but if it pushes the plot forward, and everyone is cool with it, I let a lot slide.

My favorite trope is...

Found family. I feel as a queer, neurodivergent person, I have struggled to connect to my actual family, and have spent the bulk of my life building my own. I think TTRPGs help facilitate that feeling for people who also need that sense of community and connection, both in and out of character.

My games focus on...

Connection. Connecting with the other PCs, the other players, the NPCs, and even me. The best friends I've made in my life have been through TTRPGs and I am so excited that now I get to be the facilitator of such connections.

Siobhan's ideal table

My ideal table is those that back when I started, would have been excluded from TTRPG spaces. Those whose voices would have been drowned out in any conversation. I love taking people who haven't felt welcome, and give them their own space. I would love to have a table of people who write lengthy backstories, or have documents of lore, or spend time between sessions writing fanfiction about their character. I really just want creative people. I want people who will see the problem I have put in front of them, and hit me with a wild out of left field option I certainly didn't plan for. I want a table that can laugh until tears, but also hit each other with emotional gut punches that leave us all crying.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Romantasy, Disney, Cozy Fiction, Slapstick Humor, or Puns

I think metagaming...

Has it's place sometimes, not in the "I know this thing because I said so" more like "I know this thing out of character, would it makes sense X would also know this?" Or metagaming in the sense that you lead your character to a plot point, but still act ignorant of said thing.

My table is not the place for...

Bigotry first and foremost. Either in or out of character. I welcome everyone at my table, but when someone comes in not willing to work with anyone else at the table due to things outside their control, then I will be forced to intervene.
