About dragonJoanie

I first started hosting my first game of D&D five years ago because I was tired of waiting for someone else to do it! I quickly found out I really enjoyed running tables and have been a Dungeon Master ever since. What I love most about D&D is the collective storytelling aspect - everyone is a crucial part of the game, and we all have something valuable to contribute. Spinning tales, developing characters, problem-solving, and progressing together is when my players and I have the most fun. I love bringing characters' backstories into the story and try to integrate as much of the characters' choices into the plot. I love having a dynamic world that the players directly influence for the long-term, so stick around and let's find out where that takes us!

How dragonJoanie runs games

I typically approach DMing with a lighthearted attitude and a spirit of collaboration. I tend to let more experienced players take ownership of their actions while giving a bit more guidance to beginner players. Bending the rules a little bit is fine as long as everyone is having fun! I use gridded maps for battles and dungeon-crawling in D&D Beyond Maps along with their encounter feature.

My games focus on...

role-playing between characters. I really enjoy allowing characters to talk with each other and collaborate on different plans to attack, sneak around, or maneuver the world in general. Collective storytelling really takes a life of its own when players are given opportunity to be creative.

Rules are...

necessary, but bendable! As long as everyone's having fun, we can change it up from time to time.

When it comes to voices

I try my best to have fun! Just wait until you hear my English accent.

I love it when a player

tries to push the boundaries of their abilities by trying something creative! I have a specific table rule for this called roll with emphasis. Maybe one day, you will get a chance to use it.
