About Emile

Hey there! Nice to meet you, I am Emile or like some people like to call me by my long standing nickname Dodo. My whole life revolves around telling stories be it alone or with other people. I write poetry, play guitar, go to fantasy fairs, play video games and ofcourse do roleplaying games. Storytelling has always been in my blood, when I was very young I always got together a group of neighboring kids to act out the latest things we saw on TV or in the movies. I am very much a 90s kid so the fandoms we did were, starwars, the lord of the rings, and the power rangers. The spark started there and it created a small fire that later on spread like wild fire. It went to writing stories in middleschool and highschool to my very first roleplaying session ever in college. The sense of community and acceptance I felt with my very first group that I ran with for years was so special. It is what I want to bring to every table that I have nowadays. Safety, acceptance, care, an escape from the real world. The games that I run can be dark but that is not a reflection upon who I am or what my table is about. Its very important to me that everyone feels welcome to be who they truly are with at the base respect for everyone else at the table. The games I mostly play will be play by post, I think they are very neat because you can fit them in your day and it can just go for the whole week instead of a set day and time that everyone has to make. My main focus on games will be set in the World of Darkness, its that I have a lot of fun telling stories in. However I will also be offering other systems which include: Avatar Legends, Masks a new generation, Cyberpunk, Starwars 5e/fantasy flight. I am into a lot of different systems and I am sure there will be something interesting for many to like.

My favorite shows/movies are

Right now that would be: Andor, one of the better starwars tv shows out there right now. Fargo, I love how these people write scenes and overarching plots. The wheel of time, bring this back please! I need more!

When I'm not running games I'm...

I will probably be playing video games, or writing my poetry. The challenge is to write 12 pieces this year each month one poetry piece. There are now 8 pieces written so very much on pace as of the moment of writing this.

How Emile runs games

Fun is at the forefront of it all, I want my players to blurt out their idea's before thinking if its even possible. We will find a way to do what they want, with a reasonable roll attached. Succeed or fail I want humor, seriousness and total badassery to go hand in hand. Want to drop that space ship on top of those storm troopers heads, or perhaps trick the kindred Prince of new york into giving you a life boon because you saved him from your own trap? Lets go for it! My stories have loads of twists and turns. Are the people you think of as allies really on your side? Will the encounter you had with a random person snowball into something bigger? I want to have nerve wrecking scenes that can make or break the plan that you were having but also the cooling down scenes where characters and players get to know each other better. If its political, action, social or combat my players want to steer into its all available for them to deeply engage with my world. What I find very important other then the in-game atmosphere of my games is how my tables are out of character. A table need to feel safe, non combative and chill. I like everyone to crack jokes, support each other in tough times and being able to express themselves in a civil manner. I believe that all of this is very much tied to very satisfying and meaningful games altogether.

Rules are...

there as guidelines. It helps create a system to see if your idea gets you where you want to be or lands you into trouble that we will have as much fun trying to get you out off. Rules can me misinterpreted or forgotten, I always aim to make a game fair that is where the fun starts.

Emile's ideal table

My tables are the ones where everyone brings their own favourite snacks. The room is filled with laughter and people are talking about the things they went through that day. A pizza is already baking in the oven and will be used as a natural break point for a pause in our session or eaten as fuel for the excitement that is going on in the game. Ofcourse most of my games are virtual but it will be the atmosphere that I want to bring with me in my games. A safe haven for people to enjoy themselves. Everyone works together to have a fun time, sharing the spotlight for scenes, building a story with eachother not in spite of them.

I love it when a player

Comes up with something that makes my jaw drop. Roleplaying is a creative process and when someone comes up with something wacky that just might work. It is in one word mindblowing
