About Aaron

Heyo! My name is Aaron, and I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons for 26 years and running the game for 25 of those years. I started in AD&D 2nd Edition and have run 3rd/3.5 Edition, Pathfinder 1st and 2nd Edition. I currently run D&D 5th edition. I love running campaigns and building stories with my players that will be remembered and talked about for years to come. My normal style is to go with the "Rule of Cool" and focus on rules as intended play-styles. I can't wait to help you bring your next story to life. Make sure to tell me where you heard about me!

I got started GMing...

A long time ago, back when THAC0 was still a thing... my brother and friends wanted to keep playing D&D after my dad ran a few games for us. He was the DM for his friends and passed the hobby to me.

My favorite books are

In no particular order: the Mistborn series, The Stormlight Archive, He Who Fights With Monsters, The Guardian of Aster Fall, and likely many others that I have forgotten over time

When I'm not running games I'm...

Spending time with my Fiancée and our kids, playing videogames with friends, or planning my next session

How Aaron runs games

I go by the rule of cool. I love doing roleplay mixed with tactical combat with maps and minis. My favorite games are the ones where I can craft multiple story arcs that tell a sweeping tail of heroes, trials, villians, and perhaps some shenanigans.

I deal with rules issues by...

I normally give the person who objects to my ruling 30-60 seconds to bring up the relevant rule. If they are unable to, my ruling will stand for the session and we can talk about it after the session, making changes and/or retcon-ing if needed.

My games focus on...

Imperfect characters who face adversity, rising above thier flaws to become the heroes they were always meant to be.

When it comes to voices

I try to do voices for my npcs, but im told (hopefully in jest) that they sometimes sound like terrible accents. I never expect my players to voice act for thier characters, find your voice how you feel comfortable doing so.

Aaron's ideal table

My table is fairly laid back. Anyone who wants to build a story together with thier party is welcome! Role play moments and story beats are the norm, with combat as appropriate for the campaign and adventure. If you have any questions at all, message me and I can tell you more.

I love it when a player

Brings a classic trope to the table and expands it to be different. Bring your edgy loner, let's work together to build beautiful moments where they form unbreakable bonds with the party who has thier back no matter what happens.

My perfect party mix is

A group of players that play what they want to play to have fun. I once ran a full table with no tank characters, it was sometimes difficult, however, everyone had enjoyed the challenge. I ended up learning creative ways to balance encounters to adjust for my players.

My table is not the place for...

Players that want to "win" D&D. You can feel free to min/max, but understand that I go by the rules as they were intended, not necessarily as they are written.
