About DM Mike
If you're looking for an epic, engaging gaming experience fueled by intrigue and adventure where your greatest assets are your wits and creativity, then you've come to the right place. I'm an experienced DM who primarily focuses on running D&D campaigns and one shots. The games and stories created at my table are built to have an open-world, sandbox feel to them where characters are connected to the adventures they embark on, and their decisions can make a lasting impact on the world around them. Whether I’m running a home-brew campaign or an official module, I work hard to make sure my table is a fun and inclusive experience for players of all skill levels. I have started branching out into running games of Lasers & Feelings, Never Stop Blowing Up, Chronicles of Darkness, as well as some other systems I find fascinating and entertaining. Check my listings or send me a message if you're interested in hiring me to run a game for you!

I got started GMing...
after feeling inspired by my first full short campaign. It was a ton of fun and kicked of a whole bunch of game ideas. A few months later I had written the first arc of my homebrew long campaign and the rest is history.
My favorite system of all Time is
I can't pick just 1. D&D has decades of lore and pedantry behind it making it such a rich gaming experience. Chronicles of Darkness games are so cool because of the way the system is designed to motivate roleplay. Smaller systems like Lasers & Feelings and Never Stop Blowing Up are insanely fun too.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Working out, MMA, hanging with friends, hosting get-togethers and house parties, playing with my pets, planning gaming sessions, playing video games, catching up with anime shows
How DM Mike runs games
By default my games tend to be pretty balanced between plot-based roleplay, challenging combat, and opportunity for exploration. I will tailor the game play to what my players respond to and enjoy the most as we play to every group can get the fun and engaging experience they are looking for. I can run pre-made modules or entirely homebrew worlds built for my table's characters.

I deal with rules issues by...
I like to go by rule of cool more than rules as written when my players express creativity at the table. I like to play with a number of house rules as well. In the "yes, and" "yes, but" "no, but" "no, and" paradigm I tend to lean most heavily towards "yes, and" when possible.
My games focus on...
balanced play between roleplay/social challenges, combat and exploration, with my own creative flair of course. As I get to know my table more I adjust the ratios of the 3 pillars present int he campaign to accommodate what everyone has the most fun doing.
When it comes to voices
It feels more fun when I use a bunch of NPC voices and ascents, even though I don't think I'm very good at them. I let my players choose if they want to use a their own voice or a character voice when talking in-character. Whatever everyone is most comfortable with.
DM Mike's ideal table
My players will tell you that I like to run a table where player engagement and creativity are welcomed and encourages.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
creative, immersive gameplay with a touch of chaos
I love it when a player
uses their inventory and their wits to come up with insane, out-of-the-box solutions to problems and challenging situations.
I think it's a red flag when players...
do things that would stop everyone else from having fun. Collaborative game play & storytelling works best when everyone is working together to create the experience. It doesn't work when players want to be selfish with the spotlight and only care about their experience.
