About Dillon

I've been a fantasy nerd since I was 10 years old, when my grandpa gave me his copies of The Magician's Nephew and The Hobbit. Soon after, my uncle gave me The Crystal Shard and I was hooked. We didn't know about TTRPGs at the time, but my siblings and I spent countless hours waving sticks around and fighting orcs in the woods and creeks behind our house. We first found out about D&D while preparing for a family roadtrip. I'll never forget those first couple sessions, sprawled out in the backseats, rolling nothing but d6s because that's all we had. And then having all my plans and preparation go out the window with my players as they leapt from the tower I had painstakingly built for them to climb. It was the perfect introduction to the game that I ended up falling in love with. I've been a GM for 15 years now, from one-shots and game nights, to years-long campaigns. I've run games for friends, family, children and strangers. I love bringing the game to new people and seeing them roll that first natural 20 and saving their first town. Or that first natural 1 and learning that failing can be more fun succeeding. My siblings and I are still playing that same campaign that we started on that roadtrip 15 years ago. College, military, marriages, babies, jobs; we've found time to play together through all of it, and made some damn good memories along the way.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Helpful Flexible Engaging

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing another game somewhere. Whether that's a video game/board game or outside playing disc golf or volleyball, I love a healthy competition!

How Dillon runs games

I strongly encourage roleplay. Exploration, social interactions, combat; I believe every facet of the game is made better when we all immerse ourselves in the wants, needs and fears of our characters. Character voices are always fun but optional! If you're not sure how to roleplay effectively or feel weird getting in character, I can help out by asking questions of the character and facilitating that discovery. I'll tailor combat to each table. I enjoy running extremely tactical combat scenarios with maps and pieces, as well as Rule of Cool theatre of the mind, where the players can try out unexpected and wacky ideas. Each table has different wants when it comes to combat so I'll be sure to craft the perfect combo for each group.

I once ran a session...

In the woods around a campfire. It was on a camping trip and my friends wanted to try it out. I already had a bunch of pre-built characters on my phone and improvised a short one-shot for a group of beginners. To this day, it stands as some of the most fun I've ever had playing DnD.

Rules are...

We try to keep it balanced! If it makes sense for your character, we'll make it work. Surprise me, and I'll find a way to make it happen.

When it comes to voices

I'll try them all!

Dillon's ideal table

I like to keep my table laid back. I focus on roleplaying and character development. We are here to tell a story together. If you have a character with plenty of backstory, goals, secrets, mysteriously missing fingers....we'll explore those together! If not, no problem! I love helping players discover things about their characters as we go. But don't think this means that the players will be breezing through combat! Sometimes you have to fight for what you really want.

I love it when a player

Outsmarts me. Bring it on! If a player can discover a clever way around an obstacle, it means they're paying attention and are invested in the game.

I think min/maxing...

Is OK if it fits the character you've created. But be prepared for those "mins" to come up sometimes ;)

My table is not the place for...

One player being the center of attention or "The Chosen One." We all work together here.
