About Alex
Longtime DM (almost 10 years) who loves DnD and mostly has played 5e but toyed with other systems and plenty of homebrew in the past. Currently running 2 personal games and figured this would be a good way to make some money from my skill set as a DM. Very experienced with teaching new players and very patient. I possess a high understanding of DnD 5e mechanics, as well as a broad understanding of TTRPG mechanics as a whole.

I became a GM because
I wanted something other than video games for me and my friends to do together.
My favorite shows/movies are
Dark Knight Trilogy, Witcher games/books, LOTR anything, Kingdom Come: Deliverance (Both games, but they feel like movies in a way), Pirates of the Caribbean (all of them)
When I'm not running games I'm...
Playing video games, either single-player RPGs or coop adventures.
How Alex runs games
I love roleplay, challenging combat scenarios that require the use of team tactics and out-of-the-box thinking, as well as clever puzzles and riddles. Generally speaking, I try to let my players guide the narrative and present them with a world and an overall goal, but let them mostly decide what they do, how they do it, and in what order they approach different objectives. I will then adapt to this and plan accordingly. As such, my games tend to be very open-ended since the players ultimately decide what happens.

I once ran a session...
A friend was trying DnD for the first time as a wizard and decided, for his first foray into roleplay, to pee off the side of the road. I had him make a DEX saving throw, and he failed horribly, so he peed all over himself and had to use the pretidigitation cantrip to clean up after.
Rules are...
"The Code is more what you'd call 'guidelines' than actual rules." -Barbossa, POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl Rules should be followed as a whole and kept to for the most part, but if something is really cool or makes sense or homebrew is involved, I will work with it as long as it is balanced.
When it comes to voices
I do my best. I am no professional voice actor, but I get by. No award ceremonies for me, but I try to make it somewhat believable.
Alex's ideal table
Players who are ready to work together both in combat and in roleplay to seek out adventure and explore mysterious worlds (I like to make my own over modules normally), where a large portion of the game is the exploration and mystery of what the adventure truly is and where it will lead them. They should be encouraging of one another, prepared to help each other, and go into the game acknowledging that player characters can die and mistakes often have consequences, as do foolish risks.

I am for a vibe that's...
Fun and lighthearted but also somewhat serious, where the stakes are high but the party does not necessarily need to be doom and gloom about things either.
I think metagaming...
Should be punished with in-game penalties, such as levels of exhaustion and other fun methods that can be crippling or incapacitating for characters, to discourage players from essentially cheating.
I think min/maxing...
Takes some of the magic out of DnD, especially in regards to roleplay, but I have handled min/maxing before and am willing to work around it as long as it doesn't reach ridiculous levels. I have had an arms race with players that led to a DnD Geneva Convention before; ideally doesn't get that far.
