About Al
Hello! My name is Al, and I've been into TTRPGs for about 7 years now! I started off as a player, of course, and then quickly became what's known as the forever DM, haha! I love GM-ing, though, and have been doing it for about five years now. I mostly have only played and run games in the Dungeons and Dragons 5e system, but have recently been exploring other TTRPGs. I am a big fan of homebrew and run most of my games in my homebrew world. I typically run my games more roleplay-centric with combats that tie into the story, but overall, I run games to suit my players and their interests. My goal is to allow my players to tell their story while also having fun!

My favorite books are
I grew up devouring Percy Jackson — those stories taught me how fun and heartfelt epic adventures can be. Now I’m deep into Red Rising, drawn to its intense worldbuilding, moral complexity, and characters who fight for more than just survival.

People are surprised when I tell them I come from a creative background outside of gaming, storytelling, writing, and worldbuilding have always been my foundation, and TTRPGs became the perfect outlet for all of it.
When I'm not running games I'm...
When I’m not GMing, I’m creating content, refining campaigns, and exploring art, history, and storytelling through other mediums. I love blending creativity and structure — whether that’s in the kitchen, at a museum, or behind the screen.
How Al runs games
I am a big advocate for roleplaying and my games usually run 60-70 roleplay and 30-40 combat! I am a big fan of homebrew and the rule of cool! As long as it makes sense and is well-balanced, I'm typically game for anything. When I do run combats, I try to add layers to it, so it isn't just the simple hack and slash combats, which I think also helps with keeping players who are waiting for their turns engaged. I love high-stakes games as long as my players do as well. But also high-stakes also means high rewards. Overall, I really enjoy trying to immerse my players as much as possible so we all can tell a wonderful story while also having fun!

I deal with rule issues by keeping the focus on the story and the table’s fun. I’ll make a quick ruling in the moment to keep the game flowing, then we can revisit it after the session if needed. The goal is always fairness, consistency, and keeping everyone immersed.
My favorite trope is...
My favorite trope is “redemption through moral grayness”, when characters are forced to confront the consequences of their choices and decide what kind of person they really want to be.
My games focus on...
My games focus on player-driven storytelling, I build the world, but the heart of the story comes from the choices my players make. I want every session to feel like a mix of high-stakes drama, deep emotion, and genuine fun.
Al's ideal table
My table is a space for collaboration, creativity, and storytelling. I love when players come ready to explore their character’s emotions, choices, and consequences, but also know how to laugh and enjoy the ride. You don’t need to be a master roleplayer or rules expert; you just need to be open to playing your story and helping others tell theirs. The vibe at my table is friendly, immersive, and respectful. We focus on character moments, tough choices, and a little chaos when it feels right. I want every player to walk away from the session feeling like what they did mattered, both in the story and at the table.

I love it when a player
I love it when a player adds to the world — whether by building on the story, exploring relationships between characters, or suggesting creative solutions. That kind of engagement makes the story feel alive and collaborative.
I think metagaming...
I think metagaming is fine in small doses if it helps the story, but I prefer players to make decisions based on what their characters know and feel. It keeps choices meaningful and the game immersive.
My table is not the place for...
The table is not the place for disrespect, bullying, or behavior that ruins the fun for others. I want everyone to feel safe, included, and free to explore their characters without fear of judgment.
