About DanFromHali
As far back as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a Game Master. Movie quote aside, it's not far off from the truth. I've been building worlds and telling stories with my friends since I was a kid playing in the woods behind our neighborhood. I have been a Game Master now for going on a decade. Even in today's world of professional voice actors, production values, tool accessibility, my GM style has never changed. It's my goal to transport my players to their buddy's basement on a Friday night. While I am well versed in the rules for the systems I run, my philosophy is one of engagement, and fun. I want my players to be comfortable, and engrossed in the tales we tell, the wars we wage, and sometimes the best way to do that is through a more casual approached to GMing. These are our worlds, our stories, and together we're going to build legends. --- What You Should Expect From My Table! 1) A roleplay rich, and combat-crunchy, style that is suited for narratives featuring investigation, mystery, puzzles, etc. 2) An aim to provide an inclusive environment for all types of players from all walks of life. 3) New Player Friendly Tables! - I want to be as up front as I possibly can be, that I want new players to feel comfortable joining my games. I think it is important to provide a space for people looking to pick up the hobby, so we can keep this rich tradition going! 4) My longform games, will be expansive, and catered to the type of stories, and gameplay that suits my table as a whole. I'm adaptive, and if you need to zig, instead of zag, to have fun? I'm going to be taking that turn with you. My games are story and lore rich, filled with living and breathing NPC's. I want my players to feel like they are at home at my table, and their characters, at home in the worlds they inhabit. It could be a home brew world, made just for you, The Sword Coast of Faerun, The Free City of Greyhawk, or maybe The Savage Coasts of Mystara.

People are always surprised when I tell them
I am a fan of Broadway musicals, and theater in general. I was never really the drama kid, but I have a huge passion musical theater. I think there is something special about being able to emote an amazing story through interconnecting songs.
How DanFromHali runs games
My tables tend to be light hearted and casual above the table. I enjoy joking and bringing levity to the darker themes that my games tend to have. While not a professional, I am told I am passable when it comes to voice work, and bring that to the table with me to encourage heavy roleplaying. Combat-wise, I believe in being tactical and creative. That doesn't always mean incredibly crunchy, but it does usually mean that I make a point to be very descriptive in my areas with combat. There will be tripping hazards, hanging objects, platforms for higher ground, beds to turn over for quick cover. I will issue a warning for people seeking a game that strictly adheres to the rules, that while I do follow the rules, I also follow the narrative of the game that we are building together. If I have a player, who wants their player to do something cool, and it doesn't completely break the framework of the system, or the balance of the game? I am probably going to be more inclined to work with the player to find a way to make it work, than to just say no. I almost always follow rules as written, but sometimes flavor isn't enough, and you just have to rule of cool it.

I deal with rules issues by...
Talking to my table. Usually I will discuss my interpretation, and ask if it sounds fair, while acknowledging I will look up the ruling after a session. I try to keep 30 minutes each session dedicated for debriefings and rules discussions. I also don't like rulings preventing others from having fun.
My games focus on...
my players, their characters, and where the dice lead us. My strengths are in running heavy roleplay laden sessions, and crunchy-tactical combat. Tone-Wise, I would say my preference is Heroic Fantasy with Mystery.
DanFromHali's ideal table
My goal as a GM is not to bring a top-tier, production, but to make my players feel like they are sitting at a table in their friends basement, on a Friday night. I tend to run casual games, and support the rule of cool from time to time. I run games with darker tones, and try to keep things light with jokes, above the table. If you are looking to enjoy some roleplaying, getting into combat with some new friends, and telling stories together in a fairly casual environment? I think we're probably going to be a good fit.

I love it when a player
Comes up with a solution to a situation that is completely out of left field, and makes me have to figure out the immediate and long term ramifications of what you are about to do.
I think it's a red flag when players...
Try and play the lone wolf. It's not how D&D works. You need to have a reason to be on adventure and work with the party. It's an instant red flag.
I think min/maxing...
is fine if that is what you want to do. My job as a GM is to allow you to have fun. Some people make a build for roleplaying, and immersion, and others just want to get those stats in. If min/maxing is going to allow you to have more fun, go for it.
