About Colin
Hi! I am a 42 year old dude who has had at least 5 years of experience as a GM. I definitely fall under the category of forever DM. It wasn't always this way. Once upon a time (year 2000) I was a player playing Werewolf the apocalypse and tried my hand running Vampire the Masquerade while listening to the Crow/Underworld soundtracks. That is until the scheduling gods had their way. I ended up going to university to study computer game development. Years went past and I started listening to live play podcasts and shows (Critical Role, Dungeons and Daddies, Dimension 20, Oxventure, LA by Night, friends at the table) where I got the bug again. It started by GM-ing D&D for my wife and a long time friend, making some mistakes along the way, including a TPK that caused my wife to not talk to me for a week. It wasn't long after that I started GM-ing for a larger group of friends (5 to 7 players depending on schedules). A one shot turned into a two shot, that turned into creature feature and ended up leading to the Nine hells. At first my games started in person but then the pandemic happened and we started meeting up on Discord for games. I have run a few systems and read about many more. D&D 5e is what I have run most and I have started running 2024 in the last year. I have also run, Those dark places, Bladerunner the Roleplaying game, Candela Obscura, and Deadlands. Many of the games I have run are homebrew but I have also run prewritten campaigns.

How Colin runs games
As a Game Master, I aim for a good mix of roleplaying, combat, and puzzles. Some systems might lean more heavily away from combat, especially if survival is a real challenge! My experience with political intrigue is a bit limited, mostly because past groups have preferred more action-packed scenarios. I do like to sprinkle in a mix play and try to include players' backstories where they fit. I do like to keep things light and friendly with everyone that I am playing with. Making sure that if inter party conflicts arise they are in game only. I am happy to change things that make someone feel uncomfortable or if they have hard stops on issues.

I prep by
Drinking far to much coffee and taking notes about things that may come up.
Rules are...
there to make the game fun for everyone. They set a expectation of what can be done and give a framework. That does not mean that they can't be bent.
Colin's ideal table
My table is easy going but interested in what is going on. I enjoy when everyone is involved while also respecting the other players time and when they have the spotlight.
Featured Prompts
My table is not the place for...
Trying to "out play" the other players. I like to have everyone play as a team.
