About Matthew

Hello All! I have been playing TTRPGs since 2020 and have recently been running games for the last year or so (Summer of 2025). I have found that creating stories and epic moments with others has given me a joy that is found in few other places. I have played D&D 5e/5.5e, Pathfinder 1e, and D20 Modern. I LOVE to run pre-written modules, but allow the players to make decisions that can bend the stories of the modules and react to the decisions the characters make. One of my favorite things about pre-written modules is that no two tables will have the exact same experience from beginning end! Every table and every group will always make the story their own!

Featured Prompts

I started running games because...

I have always tried to write stories with my friends growing up, it was something I felt that I lost when I became an adult. I never realized there was a way for me to do so as an adult until I started playing TTRPGs!

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Dungeons and Dragons 5.5e, Pathfinder 1e, and D20 Modern

How Matthew runs games

My gaming style is reactive to the choices of the players. Even if playing a prewritten module, the story can bend and change with the decisions and actions the players decide to take. I do like to have the rules of the game as they are written to guide how a character tells their story, but "Rule of Cool" can be a great tool for epic heroic moments that a player may come up with!

Rules are...

Important to show the limitations of your characters (or NPCs!). The best stories are often made when a character has limitations, and finds interesting ways to overcome them!

Matthew's ideal table

The table style I like is a player focused game. I like to set up an environment that allows players to try out their ideas and story hooks for their own gameplay and characters without feeling like they are stepping on the toes of the GM or other players. You can roleplay as much or as little as you like, and focus on more combat heavy scenes. Each player should feel comfortable leaning into whatever part of the story they feel most comfortable in. I love a table that doesn't force any player to play "their way", but as a table find a method that makes playing fun for everyone at the table.

I think metagaming...

Can be helpful for players when they are having trouble understanding what particular type of abilities, rules, spells and other generic situations are or what they mean. Though I do believe when a character is making their own decision on what they would like to do, the rest of the table lets them.
