About Spencer Smith

I've been a GM for over 20 years and have GM'd thousands of games. I have a master's degree in theatre arts administration which I think is the perfect cross section of theatricality and management that being a GM requires! I have a deep understanding on classic D&D lore (Forgotten Realms, Faerun and beyond) and have DM'd a dozen full adventure modules, in-person with different home groups, from start to finish. Some of these adventure modules include Curse of Strahd (4 times!), Wild Beyond the Witchlight (2 times!), Tomb of Annihilation (2 times!), Rime of the Frostmaiden, Descent into Avernus, Vecna Eve of Ruin, and more! I've also GM'd hundreds of one-shots for different groups. That being said, my first game as GM was at the age of 12 using the Palladium Fantasy RPG System! The good ol' days~

How Spencer Smith runs games

My GM-style is centered on ensuring YOU have fun and we get to tell YOUR player's story. We focus on storytelling, bringing your character to life through roleplay, and of course, seeing your character be heroic through combat! I want the game to feel like you've just stepped into your favorite book or movie, and make sure that the game is engaging through the balance of comedy and tension. I can do dozens of accents and hundreds of voices and roleplaying with me feels like you're talking to a real person with a real life. One of my primary ambitions in my GM-style is making the world feel truly LIVED IN. Dialogue is rooted in personal backstories and objectives, cities are rooted in economics, and kingdoms are rooted in politics. You will feel emersed, like there is so much to the world you can't even explore! My combat is often story-driven and each serves a purpose to the story. I try to make each combat memorable and that often includes fun gimmicks that make the scene feel like something more than "I punch, you punch". I'm roleplaying NPC's and monsters that have motivations and tactics just like you!
