About The creative DM (Silas)

Hi, I am Silas, I love to be creative. I mainly run Dungeons and Dragons 5e. I have experience running my homebrew oneshots for new players, experienced players and children. One of these oneshots has already been played by 30+ people. I also have experience running campaigns for new and experienced players. Flying characters do not scare me ; ). I also have experience running games for neurodivergent people, including: ADHD, LGBTQ+, Autism, high IQ and Dyslexia.

I started running games because...

DnD has so much potential. I already yearned for a creative outlet that allowed me to create worlds for others to explore. Having played some more traditional style of games, I wanted to stretch DnD to its limits to create more interesting encounters for my fellow players.

When I'm not running games I'm...

building Lego MOCs. My favorite genre is ofcourse medieval fantasy. I used to build my DnD maps and still recreate my PCs in Lego. Recently I build the emerald door from candlekeep. But I also build wildly differt things.

How The creative DM (Silas) runs games

I love creating, so when I played my first session I immediately knew I had to make my own adventures. From magical locations and NPCs to dynamic combat, I make sure every encounter is interesting. Flying races and darkvision haven't stopped me before. I also like to tinker with homebrew mechanics, be it monsters, items, player races etc. If you want to play a character that is not standard, I love working together to make something special. For campaigns, I focus more on telling a good story and roleplaying, while keeping combat encounters fresh by introducing new mechanics or using interesting battlemaps. A bossfight in an empty room should be crime.

My games focus on...

My oneshots focus on problem solving, like jumping over traps, and combat. I make sure each oneshot has the opertunity for fun roleplay, but it it is not the main focus. My campaings focus mostly exploration, roleplay and combat.

Rules are...

a way to ground the wildness. I run allot of games for first time players, so keeping the rules consistent helps them to learn the game. I am always of fan of creative problem solving, but I am not realy a big "rule of cool" advocate. I am more than happy to bend rules regarding character creation.

When it comes to voices

I try to do voices, even if they are not the best. Voices for PC are definitely allowed, but tend to become impractical if they are too difficult.

The creative DM (Silas)'s ideal table

I have ran multiple types of tables. I have the most fun running games for creative players, neurodivergent people and people who care about the game world. The vibe at my home games, is one of excitement to see where the story goes and what mark they can make on the game world. My group is a safe space to talk about what players want from the game (or just about life). The vibe in my players own words: Weird in a fun way.

I love it when a player

comes with ideas that don't necessarily fit the game system. If you have a fun idea, I love to homebrew your needs or think of a way we can get there using existing rules.

I think min/maxing...

a way to have fun challenge while creating a character. I would recommend saving this until at the game table. Planning the best move is for a "bad" character can also be fun. That said, if you want to min/max you are welcome to do so. I don't allow it for oneshots as it can break certain oneshots.

My table is not the place for...

people who expect to solve everthing using a sword or by solving everything by seducing an NPC. You are welcome to try, but I don't run games where a nat 20 solves every problem.
