About Jacob
I'm a journeyman level GM who has been running games for two years, but has been building my own fantasy world for nearly five, with custom factions, lore and racial flavors. I like to make my games dynamic, with player choices being the main driving force for the campaign and making adjustments from there.

How Jacob runs games
I like to focus on player choices and dice rolls to drive the story. I feel like this makes a dynamic game and can drive a campaign. Say a player wants to break into a temple to find a some loot and rolls two natural 20s for their checks, then that choice and rolls need to be honored and I'll give them a legendary item. The players might not be the only ones looking for this item and now they're hunted by a secret organization. Another situation might be that the team decides to talk their way through combat rather than fighting the boss. Depending on the conversation, they might make a new ally, they could receive a curse or the boss could decide to ruin their lives and frame them for murder. My campaign settings reflect this focus and will change based upon these choices. I have built a world with lots of history and unique factions. I enjoy building player's backgrounds, choices and goals into the world so that it feels alive and builds the overall story.

I deal with rules issues by...
I use a combination of D&D 5th and 5.5 editions and choose the rules that allow for more dice rolls and player choices. For example, allowing flanking and contested dice rolls for checks. If a player disagrees with my rules, they can point out the wording in question. I may allow it with discussion.
I prep by
Building an outline of pieces of the world that the players might encounter, whether this be a list of potential NPCs, a random encounter chart, etc, and from there allow the players to explore and interact and let the story unfold from there.
Jacob's ideal table
Players that like to make choices and drive the story forward work best at my tables. The world is free and open for players to explore and overcome challenges in whatever creative way they'd like.

I love it when a player
finds a unique way to beat a challenge that I never saw coming.
I think it's a red flag when players...
are confrontational with other players.
