About David Does Games

I was introduced to TTRPGs by playing 2nd and 3rd edition D&D with friends in college. I was hooked immediately and sought every opportunity to play from then on. I started running my own games a few years later when finding a DM became difficult. I figured running a game was better than not having a game. As is often the case, scheduling a group to meet regularly was a challenge. This led me to explore different systems of Lite-RPGs and favor one-shots or short campaigns that required less time commitment from my players and made my games more approachable to new players, introducing them to the concepts of tabletop games and the world of role-play. The most recent chapter of my quest has me exploring the dungeons of game design. I am trying to craft systems that make role-play even more approachable and reduce the chasm between player and GM by giving the players a bigger role in crafting the world they play in.

When I'm not running games I'm...

I'm finding inspiration for my next game. I'm analyzing past sessions to find areas to improve. I'm researching new systems to introduce to more players. I'm designing my own systems to be more approachable for new players.

How David Does Games runs games

My GM style focuses primarily on player comfort and safety. If everyone at the table isn't having fun, what's the point? I want to bridge the gap between new and experienced players. I wish to make my tables accessible and approachable to encourage players to try different systems. I favor smaller, rules-light systems, one-shots, and short campaigns that prioritize role-play and creative problem-solving over crunchy tactics and combat. I welcome new and beginner players to my table. I believe games are for EVERYONE, and tabletop gaming should be made more accessible. Role-play is the great equalizer that lets us explore deeper elements of ourselves. Not every table is suitable for every person, but there should be a table for every person. I strive to establish those tables.

David Does Games's ideal table

My table welcomes new and experienced players alike! I love introducing beginner players to the world of tabletop games, and I love learning new systems and introducing them to players of all experience levels! Player comfort and fun are the core components of the gameplay experience I strive to deliver. I encourage my players to think outside the box, try new things, and solve problems creatively. I believe roleplay encourages exploration into the deeper parts of ourselves, and I recognize that this can often be a vulnerable experience. I also acknowledge that the TTRPG world can be intimidating. It's daunting for new players to find a starting place. Traditionally, it has not been the most welcoming or accessible fandom. I seek to help break down these barriers to entry and bring more games (and more fun!) to more people.
