About Questmasters
Hi! I’m Josh, the creator of Questmasters. I’ve spent years telling stories through tabletop roleplaying, podcasting, streaming, voice performance, and audio production. I was the voice of Captain Cristo Cruz and Bovin Hoofmyer on the AllD20 podcast, which grew to around 40,000 followers on instagram. I also streamed on Twitch as Count Joshula and have worked as a professional Dungeon Master with Camp Dragononline. Why Questmasters? Because I believe the players are the real storytellers. A Game Master can create the world, portray its people, and place meaningful choices before the party—but the story becomes real through what the players decide to do. My job is to prepare an immersive, responsive world that remembers those decisions and gives every character the opportunity to change it. I want you to leave the table remembering not only what happened, but what your character chose, risked, and became.

I started running games because...
I love creating situations that bring people together and watching players turn them into stories no one could have written alone. The moment a player surprises the table, helps another character shine, or becomes invested in the world is why I keep coming back.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Prepared. Encouraging. Imaginative.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Building my fantasy world, Etherica; writing music; studying storytelling; taking photographs; or working on whichever creative project has captured my imagination. I love learning how things work and turning that knowledge into experiences I can share with others.
How Questmasters runs games
What makes my games different is that I don't decide the players story before we sit down. I prepare situations, characters, dangers, secrets, and consequences not one correct path through the adventure. The world responds to your actions and decisions made in one session may return much later. Expect a mixture of immersive roleplay, exploration, mysteries, tactical combat with meaningful stakes. Encounters exist for a reason and may include interactive environments, objectives beyond defeating every enemy, and opportunities for creative solutions.

I deal with rules issues by...
Listening to the concern and checking the rule when it can be resolved quickly. If looking it up would interrupt play, I make a clear temporary ruling, keep the game moving, and review it afterward so we can use the correct rule consistently in the future.
My games focus on...
Character choices, teamwork, discovery, and challenges with more than one solution. I want every character to have a reason to be present and a chance to matter through roleplay, investigation, clever planning, magic, combat, or something I never expected.
Rules are...
Rules are the shared foundation that makes choices fair, understandable, and meaningful—not weapons used to shut down creativity. I use them consistently while leaving room for creative ideas, unusual approaches, and situations the book could not anticipate.
Questmasters's ideal table
At my table, the players are the real storytellers. I prepare clear situations and objectives, then let the players decide how their characters approach them. Clever plans, roleplay, teamwork, and unexpected solutions are welcome; combat is only one possible tool. If you value a good story, creating great moments with your group, and winning is your secondary objective you will likely enjoy my game Players who fit best are kind, curious, cooperative, and willing to share the spotlight. You do not need to be an expert or perform a character voice. I only ask that you engage with the group, respect everyone’s boundaries, and create a character who wants to participate. I review every party before play so each character has opportunities to matter. Mission-focused one-shots may begin with a guided setup so we can reach the adventure quickly, but the players determine the plan, approach, and outcome. Expect a relaxed, character-focused, cinematic table with clear communication, meaningful consequences, room for humor, and a GM who handles the technology so it does not get between you and the game.

I am for a vibe that's...
Relaxed enough to laugh, focused enough to care, and cinematic when the moment calls for it. We can joke between dramatic scenes while still respecting the story, one another’s boundaries, and everyone’s time in the spotlight.
If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Character-driven stories, cinematic adventures, clever schemes, meaningful choices, and watching every member of the party get a moment to shine. Roleplayers and tactical thinkers are equally welcome—just bring a cooperative spirit and a willingness to share the spotlight.
I love it when a player
Engages with the world, tells me what their character cares about, supports another player’s moment, and attempts the clever, dramatic, or ridiculous solution I never could have planned.
