About Kieran

My aim with any adventure I run, or write, is that there's something big you can always tell your friends about when they ask about it. "Oh! We played Texas Hold'Em against a Mind Flayer. Turns out he sucks at it." "Yeah, we made a Ballroom Gown because a Dragon bet us big we couldn't do it." "So, we're people that run the subway and we stop a hostage situation." I tend to go for big, interesting situations, looking for the means to elevate a player and give them something cool or fun to do. Tend to side towards pulp adventure over grim and dower (not that I can't pull that card if I need to), with a natural side towards levity and excitement. I'm a great GM for when you want a fun or farcical evening trying your best to handle circumstances bigger than you know, yet somehow getting somewhere. I collect books like crazy. Granted; I can do D&D 5e but I also happily can run Cortex Prime, Mausritter, Fabula Ultima, DCC, 13th Age (1st Edition or 2nd), Fate Core, Cypher, Flabbergasted!, Pathfinder 2e, Starfinder 2e, Age of Sigmar Soulbound, Quintessence, Into The Odd and have recently be reading up on doing Gamma World 4th Edition. I have a plethora of possible games to throw around (some I haven't mentioned here) and am always collecting new ones. You are never limited to what you're familiar with; I can always teach something new to your group with ease. Especially for players just getting into the hobby: I cannot recommend Mausritter enough.

My favorite system of all Time is

Cortex Prime. I keep coming back to it for rapid prototyping and flexibility for all game types, often pivoting to other systems when it turns out they do the job significantly better. Usually combat.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing games, making games or reading about games. I have been a developer for years and am kinda smitten with them.

How Kieran runs games

I tend to be a very improvisational GM that can very much take whatever the group is throwing at me and use it. If you're looking to raise some chaos or suddenly throw curve balls, I am generally here for it as long as it'll add something new to the session. My aim is usually to find some unique situation everyone can explore and add to in order to earn moments in the spotlight together so I am usually very receptive to whatever a group is putting out. I do otherwise think of myself as a middle ground between Roleplay and Combat. I can throw down if needs be but also handle conversations and even smaller moments with comfort and ease. I will always look to involve everyone I can, but try my best to ensure everyone gets time in the spotlight. Striking that balance is the key. Some people are best hitting things, some people thrive chatting their way through situations. That said, I do also enjoy the moments when the opposite is true. There's some real excitement when the conversation turns sour and you're diplomat has to think of a way through a fist fight. Or suddenly your two-fisted brawler has to defend themselves in court. Occasionally, a big challenge for a player and allowing for creative bending of what they can do breeds some real roller-coaster moments.
