About Tad Kilgore
I've been a DM since I was 11, starting with basic D&D & Traveller. I am trained as an actor and its reflected in my NPCs. Our stories will be filled with personalities you remember. Some you will love. Some you will hate. I did undergraduate work at SUNY Oswego and graduate work at SUNY Stony Brook. I am the parent of two autistic young men and I have been married to a fellow gamer for 30 years. We are board gamers too and love Seven Wonders, Clank, the Legendary card games. We play everything. I've worked for Dave Arneson and ran his MMRPG, producing three seasons of episodes and working on his 3rd edition writing team. I wrote Riders of Hak and contributed to several other books. I wrote 5 episodes for Living Greyhawk and 12 for Dave Arneson's Blackmoor. I have DMed at every major convention as well as many regionals. Additionally I've worked in media marketing in support of journalists and newsrooms for 35 years. I was able to retire this year at 58, and that lets me game ALL THE TIME! <insert evil laugh> I think I have run about 2000 games since I started playing and about 15% of those have been on Fantasy Grounds.

How Tad Kilgore runs games
Let's have a great time and tell stories together! I see roleplaying games as communal storytelling. I create a spine based on the desires of the players. The story is informed by players choices and the path those choices lead to. Do I run a sandbox or a railroad? I run a railroad we build together that rests in a sandbox. The core story is based on character backgrounds and aspirations. We can always step off anything we are immersed in and explore. You are limited by consensus. What do we want to do? Roleplaying is the core of my DMing style, but I am able to bring tactical challenge. When I worked conventions all the time, I was nicknamed TPKilgore, as much for the intensity I delivered as for the tables I gave the ultimate challenge too. Combat must involve real stakes for the players. I can throttle that level and engagement based on the aesthetics and experience of the players. The play style I deploy is based on the needs of the players. A table of newcomers has different needs than battle hardened veterans.

My games focus on...
consequence and narrative. You are the main characters. I perform the cast.
Rules are...
tools to provide structure.
When it comes to voices
I am trained as an actor and have run up to 17 NPCs in one session.
Tad Kilgore's ideal table
We are here to game and have a great time. My goal is immersion and suspension of disbelief for players. I want the players to leave the everyday behind and dive in as deeply as they desire. We know the mechanics but we are not defined by them.

I love it when a player
loses themselves in a moment. What's better than the experience of the amazing and the fantastic?
I think metagaming...
drives mechanics and is necessary sometimes as players consider tactics.
