About Victoria

Hello! My name is Victoria, though many people online know me as Flyingstorm. I have always been a writer and storyteller at heart, writing short stories in the horror, thriller, and fantasy genres. My stories often lean heavily into mythology and folklore with a bit of a twist. I also spent most of my childhood and early adult years travelling the country performing in jousting shows at educational events and Renaissance Faires. Between a lifelong love of mythology and folklore, and first-hand experience with medieval arms and armor, I bring a unique approach to tabletop RPG games. I am in my third year of playing and running TTRPGs, and I have loved every moment. I am most experienced with DnD's fifth edition, but have dabbled in other systems as well, such as Candela Obscura. As a GM, I use sensory-rich narration to help build player immersion while still leaving room for player agency and role play. I use combat as a storytelling tool, when it makes sense for the story. I love to empower my players' actions, as silly as they may be. You can expect that any story I run will be character-driven, letting player choices shine. I run a warm and welcoming table for anyone and any experience level. I have a zero-tolerance policy for intolerance at my tables, prioritizing player safety. I like to check in with my players before moving into mature topics and use the lines and veils system to keep the table comfortable for all.

I got started GMing...

I gave GMing a try very early on in my TTRPG career to give the GM who taught me how to play a break. He helped me run my very first one-shot, which quickly became three sessions. Within that first year, I dove in headfirst with a D&D 5e campaign in a homebrew setting. I wouldn't change it now.

My favorite shows/movies are

I don't watch a lot of TV or movies, but I am a big true crime buff. I love a good true crime documentary. But I often get drawn into anything with mythology or horror themes. Some of my favorites include Supernatural, Lucifer, and (though debatably not a show) Epic the Musical.

When I'm not running games I'm...

When I'm not running games, you can find me out in the barn. I grew up riding horses and have several young horses I'm riding and training. While I might not be traveling with a joust company anymore, I still use a lot of those training techniques with my horses.

How Victoria runs games

As a GM, I pride myself on creating deeply immersive and sensory-rich narratives that pull you into the story. My games are often very roleplay-forward and character-driven. Whether I am running a one-shot or a full campaign, I make a world that reacts to your choices as a player. I love to create lore-rich worlds, where leaving no stone left unturned reveals backstory tie-ins or clues to much later plot points. Combat will always have its place in fantasy storytelling. I often use combat where it is meaningful to the plot and creates an emotional arc. I am not the GM for those who love constant combat or grinding their way through dungeons of enemies. My table thrives with players who use their wit and cunning before their brawn. I love it when players can catch me off guard, creating a cat-and-mouse dynamic. I find that these players often enjoy the hidden lore and subtle clues in all of my stories. Player safety and comfort are my number one priority at my tables. Before every session, whether one-shot or campaign, I have my players establish their personal lines and veils, as well as discuss any comments or concerns that they may have. As someone who was intimidated to start playing, I ensure a warm, welcoming table for players of any experience level. Whether a one-shot or campaign, expect the unexpected. Expect a table where horror, thriller, and suspense collide with folklore, mythology, and medieval fantasy. I can't wait to hear the stories we tell together.
