About Rob

I'm Rob, I've been DMing for friends for the last 7 years and for paying tables for the last 2. At my table, I believe we are all there to tell a collective story together. I encourage good-natured roleplay and respectful humour so everyone can feel they are part of the team. With a background in creative writing and improv comedy, I offer a table where the story captures your imagination, and even the daftest jokes help tell the story we're telling together.

Featured Prompts

I became a GM because

I had too many stories running around my head not to share them with as many people as possible.

My favorite books are

Tales of the Greek Heroes by Roger Lancelyn Green The Infinite and the Divine by Robert Rath Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie Frankenstein by Mary Shelly Dracula by Bram Stoker The Music of Erich Zann by HP Lovecraft Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle

When I'm not running games I'm...

Typically planning the next one or writing out my own subclasses, monsters and settings to introduce to my players one day.

How Rob runs games

My style of Dming is collaborative and character interaction-heavy. I'm a firm believer that everyone around the table is telling a story, not just the designated GM. As such, I favour creating reactive worlds where players can find themselves getting involved with the events of the story and sparking conflicts with NPCs that may lead to rivalries and conflicts that last many sessions. Most of my paid GMing work so far has been for groups of people who don't know each other before they come to the table. It's been my job to build a relationship between these newcomers, bringing out the shy people from their shells through roleplay, positive interactions and humour. I've found this creates a safe space for people to start showing off their personalities, and this has been really rewarding to see them come back week after week with a newfound confidence.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Monty Python

My favorite trope is...

The unwitting rivalry - Best explained through the Gotrek and Felix books. Where Gotrek keeps ruining the plans of Greyseer Thanquol completely by accident, and so often that Thanquol is convinced they share a great rivalry that spans decades. Gotrek doesn't know who Thanquol is.

My games focus on...

Rich storytelling, character growth and doing as many silly voices as possible before being asked to stop.

Rob's ideal table

At my table, I welcome those who've come to engage with a story, develop a character through a rich world, but who will also crack respectful jokes that have us all in stitches.

Featured Prompts

I love it when a player

Begins to come up with a thoughtful and reasonable plan that I've never considered, and improvising my ass off to help them achieve truly memorable moments.

My perfect party mix is

People who respect one another's boundaries, welcoming and encouraging to newcomers and who know when to listen and when to pipe up with the most amazing ideas

My table is not the place for...

Rude and disruptive players who demean others or me. If you can't respect that everyone else came to play and engage with a story, then I don't want you or your money. I managed bars for 10+ years, and I'm more than comfortable dealing with problem clients.
