About Joseph Kreindler

Hi there! My name is Joseph and I have been running RPGs for over 10 years, specializing in Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder. I have also recently run some games in Technoir. I love learning new systems and creating homebrew content for my current favorite systems.

I became a GM because

One was needed for my friend group. In high school, our former DM wanted to play so I stepped up to the plate. Later in college, it became a good way to get other friends into the hobby. I love teaching people new things, especially things that I am passionate about.

My favorite books are

My favorite author currently is Becky Chambers, and I love the "Monk and Robots" and "Wayfarers" series. I also have a ton of love and respect for China Mieville, and "Perdido Street Station" left a huge impact on me.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Reading, playing video games, listening to music, or watching sports like basketball, football, or baseball.

How Joseph Kreindler runs games

I love running Intrigue heavy, sprawling campaigns, but I also love quick, high-tension short adventures for those that are eager to complete a cohesive story. I love making my own settings and adventure locales, and tinkering with published adventures to maximum the fun for the players and myself. I have an extensive knowledge of the rules, but love letter players experiment and think outside the box to change the rules of the encounter.

Joseph Kreindler's ideal table

I like a laid back table that's comfortable cracking some jokes, but also wants to take the game and setting seriously. Players interested in exploring the setting and those who enjoy choosing creative options in encounters will do well at my table. I love thinking of new rules and mechanics to reward player creativity.

I am for a vibe that's...

...casual and friendly, but takes the game and setting seriously. It's nice to be able to joke and relax in downtime, but without proper tension and gravity the game will fail to feel real and immersive.

I love it when a player

...wants me to build them a piece of homebrew content around their character, or engages with the unique aspects of my setting. I love seeing players use fun new spells, magic items, or even character options that make our game feel unique to our group.

I think min/maxing...

...is fine as long as the player characters don't stray too far apart from each other in power level. The main issue with fulfilling power fantasies to the extreme is that it can make other players feel irrelevant.
