About Destructive Force

hello! My name is Caden Morse (Caden meaning friend in Irish and spirit of battle in Welsh, and Morse being Walrus in French). I've been into TTRPGs ever since high school and started GMing right out the gate, mostly because no one else wanted to, and I just wanted to play the games really badly. But I have discovered that I actually enjoy GMing these days even more than being a player! It's super fun for me to play the villain and come up with dastardly plots, while at the same time world-building, tying player stories together, and even just messing with the party to keep things interesting. In my games, I am a firmly Rule of Cool type DM; if a player's idea serves the story, is in character, is fun, or simply makes more sense in the situation than the normal rules do, I am 100% up for it. At this point, I have done so much homebrew I've lost track of everything; I've done everything from creating new magic items and monsters to making subclasses to rebalancing whole spell lists and creating a whole new system for martials to feel more powerful and impactful. I've even gone as far as to rebalance the stat systems in some games. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm honestly well on my way to trying my hand at creating a whole new TTRPG system from scratch. Whatever I end up doing, my focus will always be on player experience and helping create memorable moments. TTRPGs are meant for players of all kinds to come together and have fun telling a story!

I ran my first game...

Back in my first year of college. The rules were about as loose as it gets in a game; I actually wasn't even supposed to be the dungeon master, which is a long story. But suffice it to say that I ended up making just about every early dungeon master mistake. But I have now learned from every trial.

How Destructive Force runs games

I am first and foremost a rule-of-cool GM. You want to seduce the dragon? Well, you better have a charisma stat that's up to it AND have something that is appealing to this particular dragon. You want to throw the goblin out the window? Let's see how that strength holds up! You don't want to fight this big villain I've been setting up for the past 3 months because I spent too much time trying to make this an empathetic villain and you guys accidentally got attached to the NPC he was disguised as to spy on you? Uh... sure... Um, one sec *Puts way massive villain monster sheet and switches the music away from the Elden Ring soundtrack.* Uh, yeah! Yeah! This can work, uh, this is a social encounter now! Uh... definitely. Basically, if the table doesn't have any objections (Of which I can handle off the table upon player request), it makes sense with the image of the character you have in your mind; it serves the story, and/or is generally just something that will lead to a memorable moment. I say 100%, gimme some rolls and let's see where this goes; I will make up new rules for you on the spot if the system doesn't support it. But always remember these games are all about actions and consequences, and I play the role of the consequences. Outside of that, it really depends on session 0. I am a very flexible GM. Whether the table wants combat-focused games that play more like a video game, or if you're looking for more like a book, I can do either or anywhere in between.

Rules are...

A groundwork for inspiration and a system of fairness that also introduces an element of the unknown and chance into the story. In my opinion, they are in no way hard walls and should be all but completely ignored or changed if they infringe on player creativity or experience.
