About Jake Scheidel

I have been playing sice around the 4e era, though I'm more experienced with 5e. I've been running the same ongoing campaign since 2018, inspired in equal parts by Wild, Wild Country & The Princess Bride and, if we're being honest, taking place in world not dissimilar to Shrek's, but if instead of fairytale characters there were celebrities, wrestlers and reality tv stars.

I became a GM because

I found myself getting bored between turns as a player (and also I think GMing lets me play into my god complex. Sorry!)

How Jake Scheidel runs games

This is a game. We play games to have fun. I aim to give everyone a fun time, leaning into roleplay whenever appropriate. I like to be silly, so my games will always have that feel but at the same time, stakes will continue to elevate throughout the campaign without your characters realizing. I'll work hard to weave in your character's story into the plot so that when you finally meet the BBEG, it will feel impactful. Every session will likely have at least one combat encounter, stakes being equal to where we are in the story. (You're only as safe as the person next to you.) I'll also keep an eye on how everyone is feeling out-of-game, checking in regularly and ensuring no one is feeling awkward or holding in their pee. Most sessions will last ~2-4 hours, unless otherwise requested.

Rules are...

necessary but interpretable.

When it comes to voices

I promise I'll try. Please don't make fun of me for all my voices sounding basically the same.

Jake Scheidel's ideal table

I've found 3-4 players is the best size. Don't ever take anything too seriously. We're all here to have fun. That being said, if you're paying attention, you will find through lines.

I love it when a player

is clear about what they want to do and how they're going to do it. When I see someone excited about they're plan, I'm excited to see the result as much as their reaction to what may go awry.

I think metagaming...

is stupid. It's not like that. That takes away from the reality that is being created at the table.
