About John

Hello! I’m a dad, video game producer, published tabletop designer, tabletop terrain crafter, and avid player and Dungeon Master. I’ve DM’d several years long campaigns, as well as many one-shots. The video game industry has been suffering terribly for the last few years and I was laid off awhile back. I’m looking for a way to supplement my income and utilize my skills. I love playing in-person, as well as using using Roll20 and Foundry. In person, I would put my (honestly embarassing amount of) miniatures and tabletop terrain to use to create immersive, and impressive tablescapes. Online, I prefer to utilize my photoshop skills to create custom art and maps, and utilize sound and lighting to create cinematic experiences whenever possible. I have stuck to 5e for years, but have been interesting into trying Daggerheart, Arkham Horror TTRPG, Draw Steel, and other non-fantasy settings. In fact, I’ve been designing a new ttrpg that takes place in an alternate history Victorian London that feels like Inglorious Bastards, meets X-Files, meets the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes films.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Extra, Inspired, and creative.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing games!!!... or making games! I also love cooking, tabletop crafting, reading, writing and recording music, making awesome things in photoshop (often art for my ttrpg games), hangin' with my wife, dog, and daughter, or finding a new hobby to explore!

How John runs games

I love to curate my games to create the most fulfilling experience for my players. I personally love role-playing most, but I also do love tactical combat. I’m a former Warhammer fantasy Tabletop player from decades back, but I like to adapt the story to fit the characters and the players as best as I can.

John's ideal table

My ideal table is full of people who are dedicated to creating a dynamic narrative with consequences, who enjoy all aspects of roleplaying games, from crunchy combats to emotionally-impactful roleplay. I love to hear what my players want out of a game and what they want for their characters and place interesting challenges between them and those goals that allow for a sense of narrative accomplishment without too much mechanical frustration. I require considerate players who can share the spotlight and who are willing to explore other characters' objectives. Roleplaying games always require some level of trust, and I ask that each player offer that trust, as well as reward that trust from their teammates.
