About Rohan Padmakumar

👋🏾Hi! My name's Rohan, and I've been playing in TTRPG's for 8 years and GM-ing for more than 5! Running tabletop games is a huge passion of mine that spans across systems and settings, and I think there's enjoyment to be found in all of them! For example, the first campaign I ever ran was a homebrew D&D campaign based in Hindu mythology, where my players had to investigate the disappearance of an entire mountain range! On the other hand, I recently ran a Call of Cthulhu campaign set in New Orleans shortly preceding the Great Depression, where my players played a group of investigators that specialized in the paranormal (and operated out of a taxi stand across from Cafe Du Monde!) The most important thing to me as a GM, though, is the enjoyment of my players, so I love figuring out what sort of story they want to help create and I often tailor my sessions and prep to fit their fun! Outside of GM'ing, I'm an actor, and I find that these two facets of my life feed into each other in a really dynamic way. I have experience in both dramatic and comedic improv, and those are skills that I frequently bring into my GM'ing. I find the experience of being a Game Master scratches the same itch for me that performance art does, and I really love the feeling of sharing ownership of a story with my players and crafting a cool narrative!

How Rohan Padmakumar runs games

✨ROLEPLAY!✨ My interests as a GM are pretty vast, and I'd like to think I can adapt to a lot of different playstyles, but I suppose if there's one thing I had to pick that I enjoy most about RPG's (there's so much!!), it would be the actual roleplaying. I find a lot of joy in crafting cool NPC's for players to interact with, and I love pushing my players to make interesting decisions in-character. I find that some of the best sessions I've run involve just as many cool dice-less RP moments as they do sick nat 20's! ⚔️TACTI-COOL COMBAT!⚔️ That being said, I'm also a sucker for a dope combat map with interesting, dynamic enemies. I love the XCOM games, and I think I always chase that sort of high when I'm designing combat encounters. I'm a huge fan of TaleSpire, and if there's a big combat coming up next session, you best believe I'll be up late making a map for it! If you don't have access to TaleSpire, no worries! I'll be able to stream the map for you via discord! ☺️FUN ABOVE ALL!☺️ Most of all though, I prioritize the fun and safety of my players. I think rules are extremely important for any TTRPG system, but over the years I've found that, at the end of the day, a rule is only as good as the gameplay it creates. I'm a big fan of allowing my players to let their imagination run wild while creating soft guardrails based on the rules of the system and the rules of the world to ensure nothing game-breaking occurs. Whether you're looking for tense, tactical combat or interesting, RP-based intrigue, or a mix of both, I'm sure we can craft a story together to perfectly fit your interests!

🔦SHARE THE SPOTLIGHT! 🔦 My ideal table is filled with players that are there to collaborate and have a good time. We all love having our Main Character Moments, but my favorite players know when to step out of the spotlight and set up one of their teammates for something cool instead. 😎 BE COOL! 😎 I also generally like to keep things loose and light-hearted, not only because I believe that leads to more fun and relaxed roleplay, but also because I think that makes the serious moments hit even harder! Like most folks with good taste, I'm a huge admirer of Brennan Lee Mulligan, and I find his balance of levity and drama to be a good level to aspire to.
