About Koby
My name is Koby and I've been a game master for two and half years. I've been playing 'Dungeons and Dragons 5E' for almost 10 years, and I'm in love with the game. Since starting my GM-ing adventure, I've taken on four monthly campaigns simultaneously. I'm currently running Curse of Strahd, Rime of the Frostmaiden, Keys to the Golden Vault, and a homebrew. It only occurred to me in the summer of 2025 that people might actually pay for me to do this. I love writing, roleplaying, and having fun with groups of people; so its hardly a job to me! After bringing this up to some friends and players of mine, I was met with resounding support and assurance that I would be capable of this. I went on Facebook and scheduled my first one-shot for a small fee. The players for this one-shot were absolutely spectacular and it encouraged me to delve deeper into this career path. I'm a blue-collar tradesmen, I have lots of tattoos; but I'm a bubbly extrovert who has no anxieties about roleplaying a goblin or a princess. My goal is for everyone at the table to have fun, be comfortable, and in a safe environment where they can be themselves and roleplay their characters to their hearts content.

I became a GM because
I had lots of friends that wanted to play D&D but no one to GM. So i decided to take it up and created some homebrews to start! Two years later, here I am!
My favorite books are
Red Rising Way of Kings Kingdom of the Wicked
When I'm not running games I'm...
Writing music, working as a welder, playing video games, taking care of my four animals, hanging out with friends, and reading books!
How Koby runs games
I love creating stories! I want everything to feel like a thrilling adventure that has room for silliness, but not free of challenge. I'm a big theatre of the mind sort of GM. If my players prefer to have maps and tokens, then I'd be able to set something up on D&D beyond! But I like it when a D&D session feels fluent. If everyone's alright mentally picturing the battlefield as I describe the layouts (which has seemed to work great with my other groups) then that would be easiest for me. With that introduction, its probably also obvious that I'm a 'rule of cool' GM. I try to stick to the rules as best as I can (and Ill never be offended if a player who's very well versed in the rules wants to correct me), but if a player comes up with an extremely creative and fun way to tackle a problem; I'm all for it! I've taught almost all new people how to play D&D for all my campaigns. Maybe a 5th of my players were previous veterans, but I have no problem showing new players to ropes and being patient as they figure out how to play! High stakes combat, political intrigue, romance (no explicit scenes aka: fade to black), mystery, horror, dungeon crawls, and high fantasy are my strong suits.

I deal with rules issues by...
We can always talk rules over! I'm not perfect, and if i make a ruling that you fundamentally disagree with; I'm happy to hear your case!
I prep by
Aside from re-reading any content Ive made or catching up on a chapter in the book, I like to make PowerPoint presentations. I also use a lot of AI art; mostly just to help visualize a character I made or the characters for you guys!
My favorite trope is...
Random rolls for character sheets! I wont maaaaake you randomly roll a character if you have something really specific in mind that youre dying to play, but I love seeing players create stories around what was randomly given to them.

I am for a vibe that's...
Laid back but fluent! I want everyone to get everything done in their session that they wanted to, but be there for the good times and the laughs.
I think it's a red flag when players...
Lie about their rolls or want to play chaotic evil characters. Theres a place for chaotic evil campaigns but if were doing a regular campaign, I don't appreciate someone killing non-threatening NPCs for 'evil reasons'.
I think min/maxing...
It can be okay as long as its not to a ridiculous extent. In my mind; the point of D&D isn't necessarily winning; its making a story. If you want a strong character; I get it. But dont take it so far that its sapping the fun from the other players.
