About Alex

I'm Alex. I've been a DM for 7 years and a player for much longer. The longest campaign I've run lasted 5 years. Thanks to the magic of the internet, I've played with people from all over the world with diverse backgrounds. So long as you're respectful to everyone and are here for the love of the game you're welcome at my table. I have primarily run DnD 5e in my homebrew setting of Verand, but I have also run occasional one-shots and other systems such as Cyberpunk 2020 and Pathfinder. For tools, I've run games with DnD Beyond character sheets and Roll20 is my tabletop of choice, but I am flexible with the tools players are comfortable using. If you like intricately woven plots that incorporate your character's backstories and a balanced mix of intrigue, mystery, role play, and more I'm your DM.

I got started GMing...

because I wanted to play DnD but couldn't find a DM, so I became the DM invited some co-workers to paly, and then people I met online, friends-of-friends, and eventually people from all over the world thanks to the magic of the internet.

My favorite books are

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien, Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede, The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander, Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey, Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Visiting every Renaissance fair I can in full armor, spending time with my lady love, my friends, and my family. Enjoying all things fantasy.

How Alex runs games

I'm a versatile DM. I tailor my games to my players. In general, you can expect intricately woven stories and mysteries in my games. I generally like to keep things on the lighter side but have gone darker for some players. I've let players turn heists into comical beer raid/raves and had villians kill hostages in the same campaign. Variety is the spice of life...and death! You can expect a good mix of humor, fun, adventure, mystery, and roleplay from my games. Do you want to pull off daring heists on a rival gang and turn it into a rave? Do you want to hunt ghosts and then bash your friend's teeth out repeatedly when they keep getting possessed by it? Do you want to taunt a green dragon about slaying their offspring and then have it hunt down you, the party, and your entire bloodline after you give it your name and address in an attempt to establish a trade agreement with it? All of these are actual events from games I've DMed! I support player creativity and agency in my games, but my number one rule is never take away from the other players' experiences. If this sounds interesting to you shoot me a message and let's get your session 0 started! No AI in my games ever! I write the stories and make the maps myself!

I once ran a session...

where I planned an Ocean's 11 style heist from a rival gang's warehouse and the players turned it into a beer raid/rave with Godzilla...without using homebrew...

My games focus on...

complex plots, mystery, intrigue, dramady, and lore.

Rules are...

1. Respect everybody at the table. 2. Have fun. 3. Always remember, failure is just as much fun as success. That goes for DM and players!

Alex's ideal table

I like tables who are generally agreeable and are there to have fun. I'm the kind of DM who will weave complex plots and sandboxes and I love players who go around pushing all the buttons or trying to figure everything out.

I am for a vibe that's...

Dramedy. I like a good mix of drama and comedy. If I can have players laughing and panicking in the same session then I am a very happy GM.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

complex webs and character backstories

I love it when a player

creates an actual conspiracy board with yarn and everything. Highlight of my DMing career.
