About Addin
Hello! My name is Addin Vang. I've loved tabletop games since I was a teenager. During the pandemic, I had a wonderful opportunity to DM an online game that lasted over a year. For another two years after that, I played in games as a player and DM for games that included adults and teenagers. I am very passionate about helping youth and young people experience joy and fun through self-expression and fulfillment.

I got started GMing...
during the pandemic. Some friends wanted to play DnD to pass the time. It was an incredible one year long campaign and I fell in love with DMing.
People are always surprised when I tell them
I love world building! History has been a topic I've been fascinated by since I was a kid. How does a people become a people? How does the geography and topography shape the culture of a people group?
When I'm not running games I'm...
playing tennis, pickleball, or ping pong. I love my racquet sports! I also love volleyball!
How Addin runs games
I believe that without roleplay and emotional investment, few stakes in the game create excitement for players. The players are the heart of the campaign so I would incorporate meaningful and compelling character arcs. Combat should not just be for combat's sake, but should create more depth and progress the story. I enjoy expansive world-building and a sandbox gameplay experience.

I deal with rules issues by...
acknowledging that the flow of the game is more important than the rule itself. In the moment, we can agree to disagree, but the game must go on. Let's defer to the GM and talk about the rule later.
My games focus on...
storytelling, character development, conflict, and drama. I love combat and exploration, but they are meant to enhance the story that we are all collectively building.
Rules are...
important because it defines the game like how 5E has certain rules that make it 5E. Same thing for Daggerheart or Call of Cthulhu. I believe the rules were meant to serve us, not the other way around. I prefer using the Rule of Cool which promotes more creative play.
Addin's ideal table
The stories that have always resonated with me were the ones with deep character development and a rich and interactive world. Avatar the Last Airbender was one of the shows that formed my childhood and created a love of stories. I love redemption arcs such as Zuko or even Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z. If you're a player who likes to explore and engage the world and be changed by it, you'll fit in well with my table. I enjoy games with high stakes, such as Aang having to defeat the Fire Lord by summer's end or Geralt of Rivia training and adopting the princess of a destroyed kingdom. I like the story of a forbidden love of Romeo and Juliet. It's drama and conflict that create the best stories. If you enjoy an emotion filled, action pact adventure, my games are right for you. To me, my life is boring compared to these epic adventures. My tables are spacious and gracious. We create space for others to thrive in their creativity and expressions. For us to do that, we must defer to others and remember that this is a cooperative game where everyone must have some spotlight. Being gracious means giving others the benefit of the doubt. No one means to be hurtful but accidents and mistakes happen! I prefer my games to have urgency and high stakes but I like my players to be light.

I love it when a player
asks questions and makes comments. Let me know what you think or encourage your fellow players!
I think it's a red flag when players...
are not team players. This is a coordinated and cooperative game. It doesn't matter if your character is a loner. This character must work with the other characters, or else the game centers around you. The game is about a collective effort to create a story which engenders fun and excitement.
I think metagaming...
isn't fun. The best fun is playing a character in a world we made up together. I think metagaming to get a certain result that you want is basically cheating and not what my table is about. Stories are fun because you don't get what you want. It creates tension which is why stories are interesting.
