About Dennis

🇬🇧/🇩🇪 GMT+1 (Berlin) Greetings traveller ! I am called Dennis, and I’ve been passionate about TTRPGs for over 20 years, GMing for almost as long (38y, m). D&D is one of my main system, but I love exploring many others—feel free to ask me about them! I want to provide others with entertainment and good moments during play. My GM style is flexible: I enjoy sandbox-style games where players’ choices influence the story with own ideas and background details, but I can also take the lead and guide the narrative when needed. Whether you’re looking for roleplay, thrilling adventures or challenging combat - or a mix of all, I’m here to make your game memorable. I aim to create a fun, engaging, and safe space for everyone at the table, where creativity and collaboration thrive.

I became a GM because

someone had to do it ;)—and once I begun, I realized I loved it, bringing the same wonder and excitement I felt as a player to others. Enabling others to take the spotlight and watching their faces when I surprise them, its fun A good way to combine storytelling, strategy and other creative forms.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

D&D just because its most likely to be known by my fellow stranded people. Blades In The Dark, because it is so tightly designed and allows fun without much prep work (and D6 are probably the most simple to craft out of natural materials). Everyone is John for utter chaos, as we go insane.

My favorite shows/movies are

Movies: Lord of the Rings (Extended) Star Wars D&D Honor among Thieves Dune Spider-Verse Everything Everywhere All ... Series: GoT/HoD Vox Machina Avatar Arcane Bojack Community Midnight Mass Games: Dishonored Payday Baldurs Gate Elder Scrolls Fallout Stardew Valley Disco Elysium Pentiment

How Dennis runs games

My GMg style is a balanced mix of the three classic pillars of play: around 40% roleplay, 30–35% combat, and 25–30% exploration. I love roleplay, especially when it happens organically between players and creates memorable group dynamics. ⚔️ Combat is fun too, but my sessions are not endless slugfests. Some sessions may even pass without combat, though it remains a part of the overall game. I am not a big fan of dozens of random filler combats. 💡 Player input about their characters, backstories, and ideas are always welcome. I love giving players little hooks or secrets for their characters to explore and pursue (if they want) and providing some kind of sandbox. 🗨️ While I love laughing and appreciate lighthearted moments, I aim for an overall tone that carries some seriousness and weight (without getting too pretentious). When playing more wacky game systems, the game tone shifts of course. 🛡️Most importantly, I believe in creating a safe, open, and inclusive space for everyone at the table, where all players can enjoy themselves, explore, and tell stories together. Session 0 is a great place to get know each other ! Beginner-friendly

I deal with rules issues by...

keeping the game moving. I’ll make a quick ruling at the table so we don’t break the flow, and then I’ll look up the official rule or discuss alternatives with the group after the session or before the next. While rules are important, I am in favor of tweaking them here and there.

My games focus on...

fun for everyone (also including myself :D) Its about a nice story, some sense of mystery or adventure, strategic / game rule challenges, a wacky band of characters, interesting intragroup dynamics, character motivations, adult themes, shenanigans

When it comes to voices

lets not overdo them ! Matt Mercer set up expectations, most random minor NPCs dont need much custom voice work, but the most important major NPCs can be portrayed individually with some tweaks (und irgendwie sind alle meine Zwerge am hessisch babbeln). Games may contain 1 NPC with a funny voice

Dennis's ideal table

My table is a place for collaboration and shared creativity. I welcome players of all experience levels. If you want to have some shared fun, portray your character, explore some specific mechanics, engage with the other players in roleplay, participate in battles or enjoy listening to someone telling you a fantasy narrative, feel free to join and try out if you would like to play together. I encourage roleplay between characters and exploration of story or setting. More adult themes can be part of the game and explored by the characters, without glorification or too much details. Its about the right balance of roleplay, exploration and investigation, planning and downtime, combat and action. I also enjoy challenging my players in skirmish, but only min/maxing powergaming broken builds bores me (and would be required if a player only min/max powergames as well. Though I like strong characters capable of their job!). If you prefer to run a constant dungeon crawl with focus on the combat, other tables might fit better than this one. I prefer a certain kind of reliability in my players as this benefits the whole group. If you can´t treat others with mutual respect

I love it when a player

brings themself into the game, asks questions, tries to engage with ideas of the other players, portrays the quirks of their character, prepares their round in combat, realizes when to take a step back and let others take the spotlight, is a team player, is appreciative, approachable and reliable.

I think it's a red flag when players...

treats the game as "GM vs the players", forces actions in the narrative and ignores consent, hogs the spotlight, power gaming only, displays disrespectful behavior, does not want to learn the rules of their own character, is always on the phone, misses several sessions with flaky communication
