About StrawPaladin

You don't know me yet, but I know you. You are a gamer, you are a role player, and you would love to experience the satisfaction of playing in a game where you can overcome great challenges with other people just like you. I can help you facilitate this goal. I have been playing dungeons and dragons or pathfinder(and Many other role playing games) since I was 10 years old. My first D&D session was in 1982 playing Basic. I have rarely stopped playing since, and for the most part, all of the campaigns I have personally ran have been set in the world of Athen, my own world, which throughout my lifetime I have slowly but inexorably created a deep history through 5 ages of time. I have a strict rule, the first session is your opportunity to role up a character background with me personally one on one, for free and determine if I am a fit for you and you are a fit for me. Therefore, that session will be free, but if you choose to move on, you will experience a deep storyline, a non-linear approach to the choices and pathing you will take, and a host(1000+) of unique NPCs and unique creatures(I have over 100 unique monsters to my world) and a completely different approach to all monsters... I hope you choose to play. My first campaign will be near the end of the third age, set in a small village of Karth. Having been beset upon by slavers, your character has arrived to potentially help this suffering village, where you will learn about a deeper mystery, and perhaps get some revenge. I can run the same campaign with 5 different groups, and every time the campaign will go in a different direction because I believe that players should help write the campaign!

I became a GM because

Once I was introduced to the fictional worlds of Dungeons and Dragons I began fantasizing about a world of my own that I could populate with whatever I wanted and create adventures and mysteries and storylines that span the various ages of my world. I couldn't stop it if I tried.

I got started GMing...

I got started GMing in the early 80's as a teenager and Basic. I know, That makes me quite old. Although with it comes a great deal of experience and a world that will feel real, with deep complicated NPCs often taken from past campaigns I have run. I hope to add another Campaign with you.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Descriptive, Immersive, Entertaining

How StrawPaladin runs games

My Gming style focuses on role playing. Players will be expected to figure out some puzzles, pieces together parts of the adventure to lead to a more ultimate campaign goal. One of the things I feel I excel at in non-linear campaigns. The players are truly free to path towards whatever goals they want, as opposed to one of my choosing. although in some of my campaigns it may appear more linear, the players are free to choose their own way to accomplish their objectives. This leads to strong teamwork, and a unique gaming experience.

I deal with rules issues by...

Typically Tabling them until after the session. Although I always openly like to hear the issue out first and usually make a quick decision based on my experience to keep the game running, then explain why I do the rule my way after the session to any players who feel contrary to the decision.

I prep by

Creating an end goal first. Then I create events that might lead to that end goal and spread the story out backwards. I also have a lifetime of GMing in my world and know the ins and outs of my world like the back of my hand.

My favorite trope is...

Never having a trope. How about the Black Dragon who is good aligned and helps the players out? or The City of Quendale, run by goblins and orcs who, for the most part, are at least neutral... just don't forget to pay your Taxes!

StrawPaladin's ideal table

I do not appreciate players who sabotage other players experience. Players who want to role play, enjoy a storyline, are willing to try new ideas, and work as a team will do favorably in my campaigns. Sometimes you will be afraid, sometimes you will feel elated, but my true hope is that all players leave my game feeling immersed in a world that they have made an impact on.

I love it when a player

Thinks outside the box. Like a Summoner who always summons the same water elemental and has poured like 10 flasks of holy water into that particular Water elemental creating a Holy Water Elemental. If I am forced to create a new rule for dealing with something a player wants to do I think thats cool

I think min/maxing...

is unrealistic for the most part. Taking 2 levels in this class to gain a specific ability that combos into 3 levels of that class so you can pull off a weird broken combo in yet 5 levels in a final class is plain ridiculous. But if there is a roleplaying reason for it, cool. Make it Make sense!

My perfect party mix is

Every Player playing a character THEY want to play. any party mix works when this happens.
