About Jacob Popwell

Just a married guy wanting to blow off steam and express creativity to the max with some other great players ready to experience a magical world. I personally love D&D, and started playing with my friends in the lunchroom before school every morning when 5e was first released. Since them I've played on and off, and learned GMing is my style of play. I've taken inspiration over the years from D20, God of War, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Harry Potter, etc. I love creating puzzles for my players to solve, and not just have a combat flooded campaign. Do I like combat? Of course! However, I've learned that to keep players interested, especially new ones, focusing on something that is more common to their normal everyday skills can help them enjoy the RP more, while still having room to crunch numbers and have combat sessions filled with gripping anxiety all the same, ya know fun things! My love for world building, intense lore writing, and love for beautiful stories like Horizon, God of War, and LotR helps keep me moving. I love to have players who are willing to do more then just sit and wait. I want players active in the game with me, players willing to push my limits as a GM in good impactful ways, as well as push each other to expand their horizons. My only rule when it comes to TTRPGs is to never bring real world politics of any kind into the game. It's not something everyone can enjoy, and the risks you can run with a topic like that are too severe to risk.

I got started GMing...

When my friends got tired of always trading off DMs at breakfast every morning. I decided to take over permanently and never looked back.

How Jacob Popwell runs games

I tend to involve my players into world building heavily, and utilize things like puzzles and real world games to assist in fun experiences for the players. Bringing more then just combat as a way to

Jacob Popwell's ideal table

I like players that just want to have a good time together. No politics, no social-political stuff, just a good time. The only things meant for my table? Good drinks, good food, good people, no nonsense, no treating one another like crap, none of it. I also don't appreciate players that abuse the system cause they can. It's not fun for new players, and it's not fun for me as a GM, and won't be tolerated at my tables. I want the players to love their characters, and make them an extension of themselves.

I think min/maxing...

Is boring, just enjoy your character and their story, we aren't here to break the system.

My table is not the place for...

Politics, Racism, Sexism, Anti-LGBT+ nonsense.
