About Westin Edwards
Hi my name is Westin Edwards, theatre kid who graduated from college during the pandemic and needed a way to do collaborative storytelling that wasn't on a stage, because......the pandemic. I started DMing 4 years ago and since have run 3 campaigns and several for first time players and veterans. One of those campaigns was based on a friend's existing world and has been going on for 3 years. I fell in love with DnD as a player when I played a bard and cast polymorph on a drake and turned it into a pig. Two things happened to me when I did that. As a gamer, I realized debuff spell could actually succeed during high stakes battles unlike typical jrpgs. If I cast a spell like "Toad" in Final Fantasy, the effect wouldn't go through on story heavy battle, but in dnd anything is possible. You're debuff spells work. Enemies fall asleep, Hypnotic Pattern actually stuns, illusion spells are effective, dragons turn into pigs. The second thing that happened is that I was aware of my effect on the story. The drake happened to be pulling a team of bandits on a cart that was flying over a literal river of lava. When the drake turned into a pig, the cart immediately lost momentum and fell into the lava killing 5 enemies in one go. That was more than an effective combat move, it was powerful story moment. In short, I'm passionate about telling compelling stories using game mechanics that make anything possible.

How Westin Edwards runs games
My goal is to make the players at my game feel like heroes. I find DnD to be one of the purest forms of collaborative storytelling and that's how I like to orient my games. I love tactics and optimized character builds, but story will always be the forefront of the games. That being said, I love the ruleset of DnD 5e. The ruleset supports a blend of encouraging flexible and creative player actions while also providing steady immersion and good design. I haven't made the switch to 2024 yet only because I haven't bought thee physical books. I'm open to third party content and working with players to make sure they are playing the build they want to play while also making sure they don't steal the spotlight.
