About Aaron

I've been into fantasy and games for as long as I can remember. It started with reading fantasy novels like The Wheel of Time and The Lord of the Rings. I fell in love with video games like The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy VI. Sometime in the 90s a friend introduced me to AD&D and I got the chance to create these stories with my friends. Then I fell in love with DMing during Third Edition and have run games regularly since. While I've run other game systems including GURPS, Cthulu, Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf, D20 Modern, Shadowrun, and more, I always come back to D&D. Since Fifth Edition was released, I've been DMing near weekly sessions with a rotating group of players.

How Aaron runs games

My favorite games to run are sandbox games where I strive to make the world feel alive. Things are always happening, even when the players aren't there. Returning to a city after being away could mean fresh political drama, a new crime boss has taken over, and more. I appreciate roleplay and weaving the characters' backstories into the world. I believe that the characters' actions should always have repercussions, either good or bad. I also appreciate creativity. Tabletop games are one of the few game types where you are only limited by your imagination. Creative and narrative gameplay is what really makes a game special. When it comes to combat, I like a mix of tactical planning and high fantasy hero play. While character death is always a possibility (the monsters want to win as well), secretly, I'm always rooting for the players. During session 0, I try to get a feel for what my players are interested in so I can better tailor the game to the expectations of the table.
