About Phillip

Hi everyone! While being an Art teacher for over a decade and freelance artist and film composer, I have been GMing for over two decades. My in person group has been playing D&D together for seven years and my Call of Cthulhu group just finished Masks of Nyarlathotep after two years. I also GM Vampire: The Masquerade with a group every Halloween and am currently finishing writing and illustrating an 80 page rpg about mice in a woodland village. My teaching background really comes forward in my GMing. I try to focus on overall character/narrative arcs and helping players flex their improv skills. Aiding players from new to experienced in their ability to play a role is key to an exciting and immersive experience. Teaching Art also helps me stay malleable with creative decision making by players. Like in art, the rules in rpgs should help us enjoy the game and not burden it. Most nights I enjoy working on a creative project, playing rpgs in person, or watching a movie with my wife and dog.

How Phillip runs games

Having GMed for so decades, each module invites its own facets. I specialize in theater of the mind and help players build characters with strong backgrounds, motivations, and even flaws. The stronger our understanding of our character, the easier we can improv dialogue, make choices, and build a shared story worth remembering for years to come. Session 0s help us build a trust among our group and know what we are getting into from player interests, character investment, mechanics, veils and lines, and more. As an Art teacher, I recognize that shared expectations allow us to have more fun and be more creative as a group.
