About Shae Hilderman
Hi, I'm Shae, thanks for checking me out! I have been GMing since 2016, and have had a blast running games in systems such as 5e D&D, 2e Dark Heresy, and Call of Cthulu. If player agency and tactical combat are boxes you want checked then look no further. I tailor the experiences at my tables to those at the table and run feedback after every session. Feedback is critical to me to be able to meet expectations and provide the experienece my players are looking for.

I became a GM because
I love the collaborative elements of story telling. Being able to take the input from my players and piece it together into a singular great whole is a challenge and puzzle that I find most rewarding.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Wishing I was. In all serisousness though, I am an educator, father, and faith leader. In these roles I derive great satisfaction in providing for and experiencing the journey with those I work with. I find the same satisfaction with my players and their characters as we adventure together.
How Shae Hilderman runs games
My core ttrpg philosophy is that it is a collaborative endeavor. With that in mind I work with my players to ensure that their interests are represented at the table. I also make it a priority that the characters in the stories we tell together are the central focus and drivers fo the plot via their goals and aspirations. I tend to take a semi-realistic approach to roleplaying the game world. NPC's and monsters will behave in ways that make some sense. I also tend to not pull punches and roll openly in front of my players. High stakes makes for high reward in my opinion and character death, though extremely rare at my tables, is always a possibility.

I prep by
having a conversation with my players to see what they plan on doing next, and then ensuring that I have that prepared. I also prepare at least the beginnings and early middle of any adventure hooks that I give out. I like to include music and incororate player backstories into stories as well.
Rules are...
Important. Great stories and great characters are the one who are bound by limitations and constraints. There is nothing inherently interesting or relatable when a godly figure crushes his mortal foe. When a humble mortal rises up and overcomes the odds to fell a god, however, a legend is made.
Shae Hilderman's ideal table
Players who are team oriented, colaborative, and non-hostile to other PC's will get along well at my tables. The general vibes are comradery, support, and teamwork. Being willing to face down steep odds and overcome a challenge is important. It is also important to treat the world with some level of seriousness and logic as NPC's in my worlds will act thusly.

I love it when a player
Adds lore and depth to the story. The world is our as a group, NOT mine. Player input is necessary to fun and long term engagement and your additions are not just welcome, but looked more. I also require feedback after each session to ensure that the game is running according to expectations.
I think metagaming...
Usually fine. I live in a world where vampires and werewolves DO NOT EXIST, yet I know to stake them in the heart or use silver bullets. How much more would someone in a world that DOES have those things know and act on? Plus, I tend to add some homebrew to common creatures anyways to keep it fresh.
My perfect party mix is
Made of players who get along. The characters coud literally all be carbon copies of eachother stat wise and I can make that work. It is player dynamics and fellowship that are required to make a game work and be fun.
