About Cheese

HI there! I'm Cheese or Tahmid if food based nicknames upset you. Like many of you I'm just another guy who got quickly enamoured with these wonderful games where we roll dice, fight monsters and tell epic stories, I still remember being young and bright eyed, playing my first game of Dnd5e at the tender age of 13. Now that game was not very good but fate kept Ttrpgs in my path as while stuck in quarantine it was the presence of actual plays that made a miserable moment of history tolerable. Now I was thoroughly hooked and raced to find the first online game that would take me. since then I've played in all manner of games from large living worlds of a hundred people steeped in combat to small intimate campaigns with deep roleplay and emotional turmoil, adventuring alongside all manner of players from the min-maxers to the casual players. It wasn't long before it wasn't enough to be a part of these worlds but to be a part of shaping and creating them myself and I turned to GM-ing. That was 5 years ago and I've never looked back since. I have built large homebrew worlds, mildly complex dungeons and the occasional 5 min puzzle that took way longer than necessary. all while abusing my Pinterest board like any good player does. While I started in DnD5e I've since had experience with Pathfinder 2e, VTM 5e and 20th edition and of course my current obsession: Daggerheart!!

My favorite books are

The lord of the rings [yes I'm basic] The first Mistborn trilogy [see I'm cool] ACOTAR [I lied I'm not cool]

My favorite shows/movies are

Interview with a vampire, the show not the movie, I live to watch Eric Bogosian snipe at Vampires while they casually relive trauma and doomed romance. Close behind is regular show and the whole CN 2010s line up. Oh and severance to be an adult.

How Cheese runs games

My foremost principle as a GM is Transparency, I will always be upfront and clear with my players about all elements of the game they are playing whether that is mechanics, narrative and the direction of the story, inspirations behind the ideas in the world and even when something that occurred in play was improvised and may need clarification. within the game itself I am an advocate for rule of cool and working with the players to make their character goals and desired story themes come through with the dice adding a mix of chaos in between. I will maintain the usual mystique while the screen is up and information that stays hidden is only done so in service to the story we craft. I tend towards creating larger than life worlds steeped in magic where the players are but one of many forces driving its direction. These worlds aren't just a grid to fight monsters on but living breathing things desperate for you to interact with them. RP is encouraged. Every scene role-played between Pcs and Npcs is a gift to the world that makes it feel more real and worth living in and fighting for and makes the game more rewarding. Combat in my games is all about spectacle and stakes, it occurs frequently depending on the stakes and are designed to challenge you. There will be your classic gang of bandits to occasionally stomp but there will also be epic battles where defeating the enemy is just one half of winning the war. If that all sounds good to you then please take a seat at my table.

Rules are...

For bending. They exist to provide a medium and vehicle for an epic adventure to commence but if we need to break that speed limit or switch lanes to get to the place we need to to go then it'll happen. Rules should enable fun, when it gets in the way of fun it won't.

Cheese's ideal table

My ideal type of table definitely leans towards the casual. I appreciate players who keep the tone friendly and light over the table but can get lost in the weeds of a good roleplay scene. That doesn't mean a good joke will ever not be appreciated. Come to my table expecting a good time for people who enjoy intense fast flowing combat as well as fun and challenging social encounters.

I think min/maxing...

Is pretty cool! But there is of course a caveat. In a party of hobbits dont try to be aragorn. If everyone(key word) is going for intense stakes and combat then min max away. That gives me permission to up the stakes on my end because I know you'll be equipped to handle it.
