About Taylor

Hey! I'm a writer and homebrew designer who's been DMing home games for. Most of my experience is in 5e, but I've run a few PBTA games, as well as a few miscellaneous TTRPGs for one-shots. As both an (unpublished) author and a environmental sciences student, I'm very interested into both the historical and geographical aspects of world building. I particularly love doing character voices, and have taken acting coaching for accents and the like. I try to strike a good balance of RP, combat and puzzles during sessions - but ultimately this ratio is up to what the players want!

I got started GMing...

Because I found my dad's old 1st edition D&D and AD&D books tucked away at my grandparent's house, along with two sets of old dice - the one's you had to colour the numbers in with crayon. Since then, TTRPGs have (to both advantage and detriment) occupied a sizable space at the back of my mind.

How Taylor runs games

Above all else, I try to build everything on a platform of RP. This means things like corny one-liners during combat, solving puzzles in character, and plenty of NPC interactions. I enjoy building my own worlds, especially ones that are tailored to the particular players tastes. Working with players to create a world is something important to me - but not to the point that they know exactly what's waiting for them in the next room. Putting a lot of effort into making sure PCs are established within a setting before the first session is something I think helps players feel a lot more invested. Of course, there is room for hack and slashing your way through things too - just with a purpose! Right now I run a campaign loosely based on the Spelljammer setting, but with plenty of inspiration drawn from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" Gunn films. Another setting I've been wanting to run a campaign in for a while is a mid-fantasy world with giant bird-dragons as the core for the magic system. These ideas should give a good idea of the type of worlds/settings I enjoy running.
