About Hjonker donker

Your friendly neighborhood DM here. Favorite activities: meeting new people, rolling dice, giving players "character development" on frequent basis. All jokes aside, Hi! I am Hjonker, you can call me dude or just DM. I am indeed a Forever DM(but I kinda love it). Have been playing on tabletop for a while and have ran a few good chunk(around 15+ and some ongoing) of campaigns in my local games bar. I am always eager to meet new people and set on new adventures and experience exhilarating stories with them.

I became a GM because

my friend who was GMing and also got me into playing wanted to play himself as a player. So i decided to run a session in our campaign as a spinoff episode of sorts. And then and there I understood the fun of running games and been in love ever since.

When I'm not running games I'm...

usually playing videogames, hanging out with friends or painting minis+watching lore videos.

How Hjonker donker runs games

Mostly I run D&D live but also dabble in online gameplay, if you are a beginner or an experienced player and are down to play feel free to let me know and we can set on an adventure. I am open to many different playstyles: more combat oriented, Role play heavy, dungeon crawls and many more. I run homebrew and prewritten campaigns so everything is on the table(well a virtual table in this case). I love doing voices for the npcs and monsters. Just have a knack for the audio representation. I always want to relay the image in my head as much as I can to my players and I think the voices help in that way. I Enjoy fair share amount of heavy combat and roleplay equally(Both together is Just a chefs kiss at that). In both can the game shine in the right hands and means. Main goal in my games is for players to have fun. One thing I absolutely love is incorporating characters backstories in the game. I am a firm believer that the game revolves around the players and for the players. Even if the module is a pre written one I tend to tweak and change things to accommodate for players backgrounds. If a player is invested, that means I am invested and that equates to a good and fun times. Main goal is fun, but that doesn't mean everything goes. There are certain rules that we all must abide to have fun and not cause chaos. If you have a cool character concept I am very much open to discuss it with you. But ofc within the bounds of the settings and campaigns limitations and bounds. So everything is on the table. 😁😁

My games focus on...

The players, their goals and overall how much fun is to be had.

When it comes to voices

I go all out. I love impersonating npcs. But at times i do describe them in third person for the convenience and ease of the game.

Hjonker donker's ideal table

I prefer more mature players at my table. The goal is to have fun and enjoy the hobby. That shouldn't come at the detriment of others. Respect and shared enthusiasm is a must. Players that don't hog attention and have an understanding and respect of others. Players that are prepared in any means possible. Having a general understanding of your character helps a long way. Of course we forget the rules at times(me especially) but preparation and knowing of what your character can do is always appreciated. Players must communicate what they are willing to do and what not. What they are comfortable with and what not. What vibes are we going with, setting boundaries and etc. If there is also a problem on the table it should come up to discussion without it turning into a fight. Everything can be resolved if we work towards it.

I love it when a player

has a vision for their character, wants to explore the options and is ready to work around the setting specific rules/restrictions of the campaign with the GM.

I think it's a red flag when players...

try to dictate other players playstyle. Trying to tell them how the class should be played and forcing them to do so and making then uncomfortable.

My table is not the place for...

Irresponsible players, those who miss sessions without warning, dont have their stuff together and dont show enough enthusiasm to play. Also a-holes who dont respect others.
