About Brenton
Hi, I'm Brenton (he/him). I've been GM-ing D&D5e since 2016 and started professionally GM-ing in 2021. I've run intro sessions for over 200 new players getting into their first ttrpg. After venturing out from my dining table at home I have run online, in convention halls, and at the private venue I run with my partner. While I have played a good selection of ttrpg's I keep coming back to 5e it's just the right level of crunch for me.

I got started GMing...
Pretty quickly after my first campaign (Tyranny of Dragons) wrapped up I was like I could do that and started writing my own overly ambitus open world campaign. The play testing went alright considering I never touched the DMG just grabbed a monster manual and went for it.
My favorite shows/movies are
I watch everything Star Wars and Marvel and enjoy most of it.
My favorite system of all Time is
I've played other stuff but I always come back to running D&D 5e
How Brenton runs games
I definitely lean into the power fantasy side of D&D at my table you can expect your party to be leveling up after fighting some huge battles. I run a lot of one shots from Candlekeep Mysteries, Journeys through the Radiant Citadel, Key from the Golden Vault alongside bigger campaigns like Tyranny of Dragons, Tomb of Annihilation, Eve of Ruin. The thing I have run for many new players is my remix of Lost Mine of Phandelver into Descent into Avernus. If you are paying to play my philosophy is I'm here to facilitate your fun. Want to change your character we can find a plot reason for that. There has never been a character build I have said no to, if it's published content I can make it work in my game.

I prep by
Having already run this campaign multiple times, I'm only half looking at the book these days.
My favorite trope is...
Starting a campaign in a tavern/bar. Maybe because my professional DMing started in my bar.
Rules are...
Rules control the fun! Particularly for new groups new groups and playing with people we haven't played with before I run mostly by the book(s) (there is always flexibility there). It keeps us all on the same page. Yes, there is flanking at my table.
Brenton's ideal table
Play any character you want but I'm here to run for a party that works together. Conflict within the party is fine but you have to convince me it works for the story if you want to start making rolls against each other at my table. If you are paying to play I want you to play the character you want. If you are cool with others doing the same you will have a good time at my table. My general vibe is high fantasy but not taking it too seriously. General advice - Know how your character works - if you are paying to play stopping to look stuff up is stopping play and stealing from yourself.

I love it when a player
+ makes me laugh + does something I didn't see coming. <3 supports others in the party.
I think min/maxing...
isn't just for stats. I've seen people min/max roleplaying and it can be great.
My table is not the place for...
PvP I've allowed it once when it worked for the story and everyone at the table agreed to it.
