About Cody

I started GMing for my weeb friends in college with a silly little RPG called Maid and I have been addicted ever since. I now own entirely too many systems to ever play and love weaving together the many complex story threads that result from collaborative storytelling. I try not railroad unless it's for something really cool. Your agency always matters to me and my favorite thing about this hobby is not knowing where we're going next as a group.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Fabula Ultima, Forbidden Lands, and Mothership.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Enthralling, terrifying, and demon. Terrifying because I like my spoopy body horror. I'll turn it down if you don't. Demon because my dice rolls as a GM are known to be lethal.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing board or video games, getting lost in music, cooking terrible and exciting new creations, playing with my old lady cat, watching goofballs in anime or dropout tv, or programming cool stuff.

How Cody runs games

I am a fan of interweaving character arcs with a world we build together. You can expect many callbacks and references to anything you do to come back up in the world(or future campaigns). Roleplaying is very important to me and I love deep diving into my NPCs' mental states to bring about a wide range of emotions, but as a gamer at heart I also enjoy a good tactical combat with high narrative stakes. Filler combats and meaningless attrition are not where it's at for me.

I deal with rules issues by...

making a ruling in the moment and looking up the RAW later.

My favorite trope is...

bards in general.

Rules are...

useful tools for grounding our world and creating fun gameplay, but they should not get in the way of the story or our enjoyment.

Cody's ideal table

My ideal table would be full of players invested in not only their own characters, but those of their fellow players, the world, and the system we're playing. Generally I like to keep a balance of comedy and serious emotional moments. To quote the great Ryukishi07: “...a story should be like a roller coaster. That is to say before writing a really cruel scene, I have to lift the people's spirits, for example, with a fun scene... Before writing a scene of pure despair, we must go through scenes of hope. And indeed, when I write, all of this amuses me very much.”

I love it when a player

lets me know how much a game means to them.

I think min/maxing...

is fine. As long it supports a cool character concept I see nothing wrong with being effective.

My table is not the place for...

hateful, emotionally uninvested, or disinterested players.
