About Jeremy

I've been playing and running RPGs of one kind or another since the late 80's, when my friends and I would make up worlds and stories for each other. We didn't have rulebooks or dice, but we could draw up random number tables like the ones in the back of Fighting Fantasy gamebooks and we'd take shameless inspiration from whatever books, movies, or TV we were into at the time. In middle school, I discovered AD&D 2nd ed and RIFTS (among others) and the World of Darkness came along just in time for an angsty theater-kid high school student. Since than, I've had the good fortune to experience a wide variety of games and playstyles, in person and online, from trad to OSR to the occasional storygame (for whatever value these labels serve-- I like what I like).

How Jeremy runs games

I tend to adopt different styles depending on what I feel is called for by the game itself-- for example I wouldn't run a B/X style dungeoncrawl the same way I'd run Paranoia. In generaI I try to be a fair and neutral arbiter, and strive to make everyone feel welcome at the table. When running horror games, my style tends to be one of genial sadism -- my job is to make the *characters'* lives hell, but not the *players'*. Violent or horrific subject matter can come up (especially in horror or horror-inflected games like Call of Cthulhu or Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay) but I do my best to make sure everyone is informed, on board, and having fun, and I tend to employ a good amount of humor. I'm comfortable houseruling things as necessary, and in general I tend to favor roleplaying, exploration, and maintaining the vibe over strict adherence to rules-as-written, tactical complexity or "character optimization." There's a photo of film directors David Lynch and John Waters shaking hands outside a restaurant and I've sometimes used that as a sort of shorthand for the style I'm going for.

Jeremy's ideal table

The vibe I try to encourage at the table is relaxed and informal, but engaged. Just show up, be yourself, and be there to have a good time, and help everyone else do the same. I don't have much time for rules-lawyering or rehashing the same tired old nerd jokes. I'm looking for players with creativity, enthusiasm, and consideration for others.
