About JimprovDnD
The dim flickering light in the tavern makes shadows dance and the soft murmur of hushed secrets and whispered negotiations is overwhelmed with the sharp BANG of the door slamming open. The short, muscular figure swaggers in, backlit by the blinding afternoon light. Her voice is smoke and honey. "Oy, Luvs. Who's up for a little danger?" Let's be Brave, my friends! Make BOLD choices. Hi, I'm Jim. I first played D&D back around 1980 at the age of 12, and have played off and on all my life. I have performed in theatre since 1995, and have performed improvisation for over a decade. In both improv and the game Fiasco, characters should make bold choices, which serves to heighten the story arc. I found LARP to be a creative outlet for both acting and costume design, and have played for over a decade, and have been a Story Teller for much of that time. I graduated from college with a degree in Art, and work at a sign company, so I enjoy the creative challenge of making my own maps and tokens. I have been lucky to play in 3 different campaigns run by talented DMs that have created unique worlds and stories, each flavored by their individual style. I was inspired to create my own world and run campaigns that are highly customized around the players in my game and the stories that they want to tell.

When I'm not running games I'm...
Doing a ton of other things. I play basketball and pickleball with my step kids. I'm the captain of a soccer team for an adult summer league. I play tabletop war games like Warhammer 40k, Kill Team and I play table top games like Zombicide, Settlers of Catan, Lords of Waterdeep, or Dominion.
How JimprovDnD runs games
Telling a good story involves us working together. My games are encouraged to be cooperative collections of good, though flawed characters. I love good role play, and will give space for it to develop. I also believe that an interesting story needs some danger, so expect combat scenarios to be challenging with creative, hand made maps. Because of my experience performing in theatre and doing improvisation, you will interact with unique, entertaining NPCs. But I know that they are the background, and you are the main character. The characters that I play are the spices to help flavor the rich, tasty meat of your story. I've created a custom world, so you'll have new factions to interact and species that have new customs and traditions. Each campaign is highly customized to create a unique experience based on your character and your group's play style.

I deal with rules issues by...
listening. I know I can make mistakes or be wrong, so as long as we can look the rule up quickly, I will consider your point. We don't want to hold up the game, and I want to help you tell a fun story, so I am held less to the letter of the law, and more to keeping things active and streamlined.
My games focus on...
Fun. I do my best to make sure the game moves along, but a great game session is more of a gathering of friends telling a story together and having a good time. I work to create challenging encounters and surprises and mysteries to explore, and my quirky sense of humor always seems to flavor things.
JimprovDnD's ideal table
My favorite tables are a mix of player types. Everyone brings their own flavor to the mix. Like to min/max? Good. I like making challenging encounters that will take every trick you've got. Like emotional roleplay? I'll look forward to your trauma and joy. Like to figure out mysteries? Make sure to look for the clues! Like to make quirky characters with interesting flaws? Perfect. Just be ready for the journey we're going to take.

I am for a vibe that's...
a safe space. In improv, the players need to feel safe to take risks. I strive to make my table a place to feel welcome and appreciated, and will encourage and teach my players to help build that. And it will be dramatic, scary, fun, and oh yes, a bit silly.
I love it when a player
surprises me with an idea that I was not expecting! I also love when a player does exactly what's expected, even if it's a bad idea, because they know their character's story arc or development will move forward.
My table is not the place for...
disrespect. I require that my players show respect to me and the other players. Criticizing or demeaning others for their decisions will not be tolerated. Players should respect the commitment that the rest of the players make to play, and should make an honest effort to make it to game.
