About Logan

I started my D&D journey when the 2024 books came out and I haven't looked back. Family and work keep me busy but I always have a few things listed on StartPlaying because playing D&D is a highlight of my week. As a DM I have a simple code of conduct that guides everything else: "I am here to play D&D and I value other players' experience as much as my own." If you can stick to that code, we'll get along just fine!

I became a GM because

... I wanted to teach my kids.

My favorite shows/movies are

...oof, tough question. I'm just going to blurt out the first things I think of: Critical Role, Interstellar, Family Guy, Star Wars, Family Guy Star Wars, The Big Lebowski, LotR, Royal Tenanbaums, Treme

When I'm not running games I'm...

Probably coaching baseball, commuting, or reading about D&D on Reddit. Gardening. Mowing. Chainsawing. Wrasslin' the dog.

How Logan runs games

I'm not trying to reinvent D&D. Generations of talented storytellers have bestowed these venerated tomes upon us, and I just want to honor their work by sticking to the classic formula inscribed therein: Roleplay has a purpose; Exploration yields treasure and discovery; Combat is hard and scary and perilous. So let's just play and not overthink it. I hope that my "GM style" is more like an "absence thereof". I'm here for you, not the other way around. So I may take pride in hitting my marks as an NPC, but I'm only truly successful if I blend into the fabric of your game so that you can focus on the other players and the moment. I'm going to manage the clock toward meaningful story advancement in every session, and that means we're gonna keep it movin’ and stay on target. If the spotlight is stuck somewhere or we're discussing our real lives on the clock, you can expect me to enforce the code.

I deal with rules issues by...

avoiding argument, taking the high road, and clearing it up later in a post-game message on Discord. 5 seconds is too long to argue about rules on the clock.

I once ran a session...

...that made me cry. Solo one-shot with a Goliath Bard that played the trumpet. As we parted ways, we sat on a hilltop and he played a tune on a nat 20 performance. My narration of the moment and his reaction left us both speechless. It was lovely.

Logan's ideal table

... treasures laughter and tears as much as nat 20s. ... leans into alignment and asks "what would my character do?" ... shares the spotlight and hates dead air. ... obsesses about optimizing audio quality because it's all we get folks! ... wishes half the players were women because half the world is women and a mix of voice registers is just better.

I love it when a player

Reacts and makes a quick decision instinctively as their character would.

My table is not the place for...

Wasting anyone's time or cheating.
