About Nicholas

I have been a "forever" GM for a variety of games starting 20 years (yes I am an older gamer). I tend to run games that are a mix of Role and Roll playing. I run games from other publisher besides WotC. I am the type of gamer who always find something to like in any game system I get exposed to.

I got started GMing...

Because no one else would so I had quite some false starts at the beginning.

My favorite books are

It heavily varies but in rotation are the Inheritance cycle, Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Lord of the Rings (yes a probably stereotypical answer but hey its a good saga).

When I'm not running games I'm...

Either reading or playing video games.

How Nicholas runs games

I tend to prefer to let my players direct the story which means more often than not they go left when I may have planned for them to go right, but I do what I can to keep the story running smoothly regardless. I try to model the idea of the "yes. and" methodology but am human and sometimes fail.

I deal with rules issues by...

sticking to RAW unless it would completely ruin the moment. I do try to use Rule of Cool when possible.

My games focus on...

On the events the Players get to effect and shape. I will rewrite stuff when the PCs decide to in any other direction than the one(s) i planned for.

When it comes to voices

I try my best but I am not a professional voce actor and don't expect that from my players either.

Nicholas's ideal table

People coming together to have fun and enjoy themselves in the fictional world and game we would be creating. I tend to try and make sure everyone is able to play to their comfort levels.

I think it's a red flag when players...

Are to obsessed with getting gear or trying anything they can to be op because they want to play a god-like character. Min-Maxing is one thing but trying to get a unattainable AC is not. We all fail and it is ok for that to happen in a game.

I think metagaming...

Is unavoidable but I try to ignore it when it is harmless or seems worth having in the situation.

My table is not the place for...

hateful people, folks who enjoy bullying a peer.
