About Brian Peck
DM for 10 years running both homebrew and WOTC Campaigns for High School kids and Adult games. Looking to apply the Fun in new ways. I have used Roll 20 when the games need to go online. I customize the games (even pre written modules) to really bring them to the players and look for the story Arc of the PC's you create.

I started running games because...
I wanted to spend more time with my kids. But they are now all grown and living their lives. I started a group with adult friends years ago and we still play every week we can in person. But I am ready to offer my experience to others and see how it goes.
My favorite shows/movies are
Stargate.. all of them. But I draw inspiration from so many movies and shows. I do usually give inspiration points when players can identify when I am doing a movie reference.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Looking for outdoor adventures and travel. Enjoying time with family in friends. There is always a next event planned to look forward to, especially the next D & D session.
How Brian Peck runs games
Relaxed and Fun. Rules are meant to be bent the sake of the story and the enjoyment of the players. Nothing to serious, a lot of zany antics. I think fast on my feet. Not much I have not seen my players attempt. I will do character voices and roleplay as much as a player engages. Combat is fast and furious.

I deal with rules issues by...
Rules are designed to be a framework. We can build around this and add to it. I do try to keep a power balance among the players so one is not overpowered at the expense of others. If there is an issue, I usually allow it for that session and then I research and make a better ruling later.
My games focus on...
Fun. Houserules are applied if it makes the game more fun for everyone. Rule of Cool as long as it is not game breaking. I like to focus on creating a narrative with the NPCs and BBEGs for a real experience. I develop motivations and reasons for their actions. I use a lot of Setups and payoffs.
When it comes to voices
I will do voices and personalities for the NPC.s I do enjoy when the players join me but don't require it. I am no voice actor but I handle the basics.
Brian Peck's ideal table
In a word, relaxed. I want everyone to be included and have moments to shine with their character. We play the game to have fun and laugh. We play to have satisfying intense encounters because of the stories we will tell later. I am looking for players that work with each other to build the story with the DM campaign points and roleplay. The players choices absolutely matter in my campaigns and change the story. I never allow PVP.

I love it when a player
I love it when a player has that sudden moment of realization that the plot points and careful set ups I have laid before as the DM come to fruition and they see the payoff and resolution of hidden knowledge.
I think metagaming...
is cheating. There are not many ways to cheat the game but this to me seems to be one. If you of course know the way to defeat a vampire is to do X, and suddenly your character knows it also, then you are missing out on a lot of the fun. And the game is about fun.
I think min/maxing...
I think min/maxing has its place. You want your character to shine bright in the abilities they have chosen. But I also think every good character has a flaw that they need overcome, and a good player allows the DM to lean into that weakness trusting that they are supporting them.
