About Oiji

Hello! I go by Oiji, and I'm a Tabletop RPG Addict. I've been roleplaying for a very long time now, and tabletop roleplay is one of my passions. I really enjoy making characters and homebrew worlds for systems and trying to make up something fun. I've played Dark Heresy, 3.5e, DC20, 5e, and Pathfinder. I'm planning on learning Pathfinder 2e at some point. I primarily use FoundryVTT as a means of playing games. I have experience with Roll20 as well, but I find that it can be a little finnicky with map sizes. I love GMing, and being a player. Been GMing for awhile now and my players are quite happy so far with the homebrew settings I've made. I've had some troublesome players, but I've handled them gently as I could. So you can be assured that any possible uncomfortable moments will be handled, and never be afraid to tell me and I'll talk to whoever is causing the issue in our games. I'm always down to learn a new system should you wish to try it as well! Art in the avatar is owned by me. That's pretty much my "persona."

I became a GM because

I really love cooperative storytelling where dice can be a major factor of what could possibly happen. I think it's honestly why I love roguelike and roguelite games.

My favorite books are

Stormlight Archives, Dungeon Crawler Carl, and the Cradle series.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Usually roleplaying, writing homebrew setting documents, drawing, or playing videogames!

How Oiji runs games

My style of DMing is the "Yes and" route. I believe that Players shouldn't be too limited in what they want to do and achieve. Want to be a dragon? Sure, we just make a nerfed version with some restrictions. Trying to be a deity at the end? Alright, but it'll be a difficult path. I try to be as open as possible to what people want, and try to make sure I don't pull a "Uhm actually" rules check when really? It's all about the fun that you and I have. Combat can be often seen as easy. I love roleplay, so there will be plenty of NPCs to chit chat with, and you can always talk your way out of combat. For fun, I often use a "Two nat 20s, Two nat 1s" house rule, where should you roll two natural 20s, you can instant kill something, even if it's a big bad. If you roll two nat 1s? Something terrible might happen. The same will go for my end, but I will always ask you if you're okay with your character potentially dying, because if not, I'm totally fine with them just going unconscious.

My games focus on...

I follow the "Yes and" method as of late, as I don't want to limit a player's creativity for their character and story. If they want to be a deity at the end, why not? Just give him a task that will be difficult, but certainly doable. After all, the game isn't about me, it's about them.

Rules are...

I think rules are flexible. Yes, there are rules but sometimes situations calls for brief or perhaps permanent changes. For example, Level 1 in 5e can be brutal, and it's no fun to get instakilled if you picked the lowest health class. You can still have the rules, but not have it be as devestating.

When it comes to voices

I am utterly awful with accents, but I like to try it. I can do a poor southern, and somewhat "fancy" accent. I can certainly do a smoker's voice, but anything else? Likely I will have to verbally describe it. I think it's all in good fun though.

Oiji's ideal table

The types of players I get along with the most are the ones who can roleplay with each other, bounce off of each other and be open to humor. Every game we see these days by those who have taken the role of GM into a profession often has many funny moments. Critical Role, Dimension 20, and others may have serious moments, but it also has that comedic factor in it that I think always makes a campaign fun for everyone. Brennan Lee Mulligan is a huge inspiration to me, and his type of players are the kind I usually have. If my players can get along, can take some dark humor or normal humor, I think everything will get along fine. As long my players aren't a creep, or thirsty for PVP, I think everything will be golden. ✨

I am for a vibe that's...

Not too serious and has plentiful silly perhaps funny moments. Yes the campaigns will have losses, dark moments, and what not, but it isn't all shadows and grimness. You will encounter a joke NPC at some point.

I love it when a player

comes up with the most creative ways to deal with a situation. Be it puzzle, social, or somehow finding a method of killing a massive beast instantly by having something heavy fall on it. I enjoy these moments a lot.

I think metagaming...

Isn't good. To know something that happened outside your character's knowledge always brings down the fun in a party.
